I did a clean vista install on my laptop and now I cant play certain MKV files. Most of the AVI files that I had are playing fine except the DivX ones. Earlier I had Vista Codec Pack installed along with DivX. But I dont want to create a mess of codecs on my system now. I want to keep it neat and install as few codecs as possible to play all the required video files on my laptop. I dont want to install two codecs which both do the same job. Can you suggest what should I do??

Also, what codecs I should install. As such I was thinking of installing FFDShow, AC3Filter, Divx along with matroska pack in order to play all the files. Is that a good choice?? Is there a better choice of codecs to play all the files??

    Thanks for help!!

    Hi Taylor!

I'm thinking that FFDShow will handle all those so no need to install another AC3, Divx or Matroska codec (The only codec pack i install is FFDShow and i can play all those file types)...

    Thanks for reply nick.
Can you tell me where did you download the FFdshow from. I heard its original author has stopped updating the pack.
