Hi, I'm setting up a new HTCP wiht a technisat DVB card. I'm wondering if anyone knows if I can use a DirecTV dish and lnb that I happen to have. I'm just looking to get the FTA channels to start with. For clarification: I'm not trying to get DirectTV programming, I just wanna use the DirecTV dish to feed the DVB Card. Is it possible? And, Where can I learn more about different antenna types for DVB? Thank you, Dave
Yes, a DTV dish will work for FTA. Shouldn't be any problems. I'm using a old 18 inch DTV dish for my FTA receiver. Jerry Here is a link on dishes and LNBs. Keep in mind that the FTA forums are bogged down right now due to a channel encryption problem. You may have problems getting into the site. http://forums.al7bar.tk/showthread.php?t=8158
Thanks for your reply. I've read about this encryption issue on various sites. Does this effect FTA channels or only encrypted or pay channels? If the former, why? Another question: I've read about bin files loaded into a FTA reciever to "alter" the channels available from a satellite. Can these bin files be used in a PC with a DVB card rather than a stand-alone receiver? If not, are there similar solutions available to the PC-based receiver? Thanks much for your help and knowledge! Dave
The encryption issue shouldn't effect the TRUE FTA channels since they are not encrypted. It only has to do with the PAY channels. Some cards like yours are bin upgradable but since I'm not into the cards I don't know which ones can and which ones can't. Join a good FTA forum and they should have info on the cards. Jerry
