Any help would be appreciated -

I just bought a Norwood DVD burner which came w/Nero software. All I want to do is burn MPEG files I downloaded onto a DVD( I iused a TDK DVD+R disc) to watch in my DVD player. I selected the files and selected where I want to burn and Nero went through the whole burn process (about 10 min. for 3 short videos) but DVD burner did nothing. Can I even burn MPEG downloaded files onto to a DVD+R and watch in my DVD player? Thanks.

Many thanks - do you think it's strictly a software problem? I just had the feeling that since DVD burner was not making any noise that maybe my computer wasn't recognizing the new burner (F:Drive).

Burner are usually pretty quiet when working properly. I can tell it's burning when the light comes one. Did you try playing the dvd in any standalone?

Thanks. no - light didn't come on and when it was done I checked the disc and it was empty. I'm pretty sure the burner was not doing anything. I did play an audio CD in the new burner and it worked. When Nero asked me which where to burn it gave me 2 choices 1."16X12 Dual Layer" and the generic "Recordable Device". I tried both and everything else I could think of and the DVD burner just would not start up. Do I need a different type of disc (tried only DVD+R)? Transferring downloaded MPEG videos to DVD is possible with Nero, right?

Yes Nero can do this. It seems your problem is w/ your drive though.
What's the make and model of it? If it's a dual format it will accept the - and + formats. Can you post your Nero log? It can be found here:
    c:program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.log. Make sure yiu edit out the serial # - begins w/ 1A

Perhaps the log may be empty if the burner has never burned?
Nero Toolkit/ Infotool/ Drive Ifo, might give some information about the drive.
