Hi- I have looked through posts but haven't been able to seem to find an answer to my problem; if anyone could help I would really appreciate it. I have never posted in a forum before so if I am not doing this right I am sorry.
Here's my porblem: I have been making backups of my movies for a year or two - have used dvd shrink and decrypter but lately have been using any dvd and 1click. I had no problems until I had a new dvd burner put in my computer. The movies seem to copy fine and will play fine in my computer but they wont play in any regular dvd player. Nothing else is different- same media(verbatim dvd-r,and I have also tried verbatim dvd+r but no luck) same dvd players (they play my old copies fine).
Thanks for any help you can give me!

    Hi bakerboy1
    Welcome to aD

One thing comes to mind - burn speed? Using a higher burn speed then on the other burner?

What's the make and model of the new one?

The name for the burner is LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1693S
As far as burn speed- I had read that in some of the posts to try at a lower speed but I don't know how to check or change any settings on the burner itself. I haven't changed any settings in 1click nor could I find where you could change them.
Sorry I am not very computer savy! Thanks for the help

Hmm I'm thinking 1Click is defaulting to max burn speed - I haven't used it in awhile and can't remember where you would change the burn. I would think they would have it somewhere.

Try this - use AnyDVD running behind Shrink. In Shrink when you click on back up click on the burning settings tab - change you're burn speed to 8x or lower.

Now in Nero check the firmware version on the LiteOn. Open Nero's SmartStart and go to ToolKit>InfoTool. Click on the drive tab - there's a field there for firmware version. If it's not version KSOB update it to that one. Here's a link

Give that a go and let us know.

You switched burners? Burners are different. All are suppose to play their own backups. Some stand alone players can be picky as to what format they favor and can even tell differences between backups from other burners. Your player/s are having trouble reading your new Litey's backups. I've encountered that many times myself.

    No disc errors?

You tried both formats and nogo. Lite-on has bitsetting capability to booktype the plus format to dvd-rom.

You'll definitely want to set up your burner to booktype. Here's the utility from lite-on. I'm not sure how it's exactly set up,but look for something that changes your media from dvd+r to Dvd-rom.

Also look for that firmware update that binkie7 posted and keep burn speed below 8x with quality media.

I used the firmware update and then used shrink and lowered the burn setting to 4x. Thanks again!
