The burner I use (LG) only burns at 2X. However after using some of my friends' burners (read: showing them how to use them) I found some poorer quality stand alone DVD players read the 2X disks better than the 4X.

Using my steps for backing up movies:
    DVDdecrypter
    DVD2One
    Stomp Record Now

you will find that the ripping/re-encrypting process takes about 45-75 minutes. Burning at 2X takes about 30 minutes. By bumping the speed to 4X you'll only shave 15 minutes off the total time.
