Me being in Japan I was watching the news this morning. They are developing a new format. Not sure of the name yet, but it is a new disc which look's like a regular disc. Only it is flexible. It can hold up to 10 high quality HD movies and is supposed to be 7 times better quality wise than Blu Ray is.
The problem as I see it, by the time they can make this new technology affordable and feasible, is after a few years of development and getting other companies to buy into it, before the NEXT technology comes out. Bluray is here for awhile, If I had to sport a guess, it would be at LEAST 5 years, maybe up to 10 before its totally gone (like DVD prob has another 4 years or so left to it)
I agree, they are just gonna keep making new formats that are better and better. Blu Ray will be here awhile.
Supposedly Toshiba has a new tech that they are exploring right now as well. Perhaps this is what you were talking about in Japan. I don't think they will take the Bluray defeat lightly.
If it was better than HD-DVD why release it after it dies...?Its not only a upgrade over upscale dvd players not better than Blu-Ray i seen some of the screen shots & trust me its more hype than anything else.
DVD and Mp3s are here for the duration. You can still buy a VHS player.LOL Blue ray is too expensive and people seem content with standard dvds. Our blockbuster has two shelves of BluRays in a very large store. With upconvert players DVDs look might good in HD.
