Hi! I just started downloading movies and I don't want them to take up so much memory. How do I compress or make the file size smaller? Can I even do that? Also, do I have any options for saving these files onto a disk, like a USB FileKey or something like that. Any tips at all would be nice to keep the size down or to be able to make them portable so I could use them on my laptop as well. I'm sorry I'm really new to this, but if I'd really appreciate it if anyone could offer any help! Thanks, Kel
Well if you downloaded these Files off the net then chances are that they are as small as they are going to get without sacrificing Quality, Why don"t you just burn them to CD-R as CD-R"s are only like 15 cents each, You can also make VCD"s or SVCD"s out of them and then you can watch them on your DVD Player but makeing VCD"s out of them will actually make them bigger but you will be able to watch them on TV...If you really wanted to you could compress them so they are smaller but then it would Greatly degrade the Quality and they wouldn"t get that much smaller so iether Burn them to CD-R or leave them as they are...Cheers PS:If the Files you are Downloading are AVI then they are allready in XviD or DivX format so encodeing again to that Format will not be a Good idea that is if you appriciate Quality..._X_X_X_X_X_[small]It"s better to be Pissed Off than Pissed On!!![/small]
Hi Kellyb, if you are downloading movies and space is a major concern, then avi/divx/xvid are all options you should consider. They are all types of video and audio files that are much more space friendly than a regular MPEG (or DVD/SVCD/VCD) file. But you can only play them back on a) your computer or b)a small select few DVD players (that are somewhat expensive). It sounds like you just want to be able to carry them on your USB key and play them on your laptop. I would suggest then downloading the .AVI file of any video you want. For example, a VCD which is pushing 700MB willl be be approximately 250 MB (or less) in an .avi file. And you will lose very, very little in quality. As long as you have th proper codec, there should not be any problems. AND, I am somewhat new to this scene. If ANYONE sees any corrections in my above post, please feel free to do so. We are all here to help another.
Welcome both of ya's As Minion has said, most likely, the files will be as small as they can possibily be (you might be able to chop the audio bitrate down but that wont save you much). Burning them onto CDs would probably be the most affordable technique however if you had to, you could easily split an AVI file over two or three CF cards (or more, depending on the capacity of the CF card but that would be expensive as hell). USB keys dont offer the kind of capacity to feasible consider transporting movies whereas CDs seemingly were made for that very purpose
