today i recieved the geforce 6800 GS, (agp *8)
So, my dad opened up my computer, took out the existing card, put in the new one, it fitted alright.as you put the power on, there is a continuous beeping noise for a good few seconds.once it was away, we turned the computer on, then the beeping/whining noise was continuous and does not stop. not only that the monitor does not turn on? with the card, we recieved two cables, coloured - yellow, red and two black. there are two of these cables with 4 of these smaller ones within them. we could not find a use for these, no slots to put them in or whatever, so we left them. weve tried taking the card out and putting it back in etc. but no such luck. so we put the old one back in-no problems. so i thought id come to you guys! please help! cheers.

im having a look to see if there are any known issues between that card and board but i doubt it.

have you tried putting your old card back in to see if the system will boot properly???

since you obviusly have access to a computer take a look on the driver cd. apperently theres a full installation guide for the card on the disc in pdf format so youll need adobe acrobat reader. take a look through the guide and you may well be able to fix the problem nice and quick

there isnt really too much in the guide...the only thing i stumbled across, which i have no idea if it means anything or not is this:
Step 1: Mainboards with onboard graphics adapter / controller
(Skip this step if you are not using this type of mainboard)
It is advised to disable onboard graphics controllers either by jumper on the
mainboard, or by changing graphics adapter priority in the BIOS, CMOS or
hardware setup. The mainboard technical reference manual should have more
    information.
If disabled by the BIOS, there will normally be an option in Integrated Peripherals
or Chipset Features: 'Init Display First' (or similar). For mainboards with no AGP
slot, options may be PCI slot/AGP or PCI slot/Onboard. For mainboards with an
AGP slot, options may include PCI slot/AGP slot/Onboard AGP.
     Please set appropriate option

no idea what any of this means right enough. but apart from that it basically just says put it in, then load the cd:S
there isnt any troubleshoot or anything....

that is a possibility as had that happen with a customer's new videocard & was tempermental in posting. another possibility is the card is not compatible to the computer. what is the make & model# of the computer or motherboard as the agp voltage might be wrong for the card?

its definetely compatable ive been through all this on another thread, guy called ragnarock was helping me, told him all my spec, and he said that this card, would be compatable.

give it a try in another computer if you can. if it still doesnt work then take/send it back and get a replacement

does the card have a 4 pin molex connector on it ? if it does like a lot of these cards do you have to supply power to it . these cards are power hungry and some need more power than they get from the motherboard .

how do i know if its a four pin molex connector? and if so, how could i supply it with power?

molex connecter is the same type of connector that goes into the cd drives in your comp (the one with 4 wires not the big grey one lol)

if you do need that kind of connection it should be clearly visible on the card but it will be sideways on rather that physically going into the card
