Hey i tried burning MW3 at 2x then 4x and got errors with both. At 2x the game would start then crash after like 30 seconds. Then 4x it would play fine for a few missions then crash at the same mission each time. I tried 6x and it burned all the way without any errors and never crashed throughout the game.

So i thought i had the problem sorted i just had to burn at 6x. Then i tried to burn

Top Spin 4 (which is not an XGD3 game) at 6x and it got to around 85/90% then got an error again. It still plays but im pretty sure it will crash sooner or later like MW3 did when i burned at 4x

Is this because its not an XGD3 game? So far i have only burned 2 Top Spin 4 & COD MW3, so thats all i have to go on.

I am useing Verbatim DVD+R DL x 8 - 8.5 GB discs and an external Dual Layer burner

Any help would be great thanks.

Just to add tried burning GTA IV at 4x and it went fine. No probs, could it be that XGD3 games need burned at x6 and non XGD3 games need burned at x4 ???

Hey don't burn àt 6x or 4x. For me don't matter if its a xgd3 game or not always burn it at 2.4x on verbatim DVD+r dl disks and never ever have problems. So burn your games at 2.4x and always verify your Burns.

Burning slower is not always better, as you've discovered. Unfortunately, there are no "golden settings" that work perfectly for everyone. What works for me might give coaster after coaster for someone else. It's just a case of tinkering around until you find something that works for you and if that means burning at 6X, then burn at 6X.

You need 1 of these drives (which includes the 2 you mentioned): -

    Lite-On iHAS124B
    Lite-On iHAS224B
    Lite-On iHAS324B
    Lite-On iHAS424B
    Lite-On iHAS524B
    Lite-On iHAS624B

You can cross-flash a 124/324 to a 524 and you can cross-flash a 224/424 to a 624 so really there's no reason to buy anything other than a 124 or 224 unless you can find the higher up models on sale cheaper.

    Cross-flashing tutorial: -

That looks like a good burn to me.

From what I've read on various sites, if your max PI is below 280 and your max PIF is below 4, then any drive that's based on the DVD spec will read the disc without slowing down. Once the error rates get above that, drives may have trouble reading the disc and may have to slow down to read it properly, and if the errors are too bad then the drive will fail to read the disc at some point. Some drives will still read discs just fine when the error rates are above the 280/4 recommended limits.

Some people say that for XGD3 burns the max PI should be below 100, but I am yet to see an explanation why. As your average PI result is low, I'm assuming your max PI is from a spike.

Personally I would be happy with that burn. The max PI is within spec and the average is low. The max and average PIF results are superb.

Are you kidding me man? People just don't think for themselves these days, lol.

The 624B is the top model. What would you cross-flash it to? A lower end one?

As for not having to flash it to Burner Max, if Burner Max wasn't needed at all, why was it even created? Of course you have to flash to Burner Max! That's the whole point of buying one of those drives - so that you can flash it.

I got my Ihas124-06B burner. I want it to connect to my laptop via USB. Does any normal SATA to USB converter do the job? I was thinking to buy this http://tinyurl.com/852km6p Will it work with Ihas?

What do you mean by "Burner Max and the firmware"? Burner Max IS the firmware. It replaces the stock firmware of the burner, the same as LT+ 3.0 replaces the stock firmware of a 360 drive.

EDIT - Sorry, I'm not being very helpful. Perhaps you could list the exact steps you took to flash your drive with Burner Max, and also expand on what you mean when you say "it's not working".

You need LiteOn Ihas X24 B (where X=1,2,3,4,5,6) burner and that should be flashed with burner Max FW.

People useing MKM-001 disc should check out these settings:

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-152/burning_mkm-001_at_4x-921136/

What i did was clear all the settings, cleared the OPC history and rebooted. i then enabled these settings:

    FHT:eek:n, OHT:eek:ff, OS:eek:n, SB:eek:n, 4x speed

After buring and useing KProbe these are the results i got:

    PI max = 14 AVG = 0.69
    PIF max = 3 AVG = 0.07
