I just got a new Seagate 300GB hard drive. my current setup is I have a 80GB harddrive with my operating system on it plus a 150GB Maxtor drive as storage and I have them both going to a PCI controller card (Promise technology Ultra100 TX2/133 TX2 controller card). my 80GB is about to fail and I have transfered over all data to my 150GB drive. Now i want to do is replace my 300GB drive from my 80GB - I want to do a fresh intall of Xp and a fresh install of the programs also - How do I go about doing this?

Ok once you have connected up the 300gb as the main (master) drive you will need your XP disc and licence key then to do a fresh install....

    1. Insert XP disc and boot from it on startup....
    2. Let setup load...
    3. Press enter
    4. Press F8
    5. Press ENTER to format drive
    6. Select QUICK Format
    7. Let setup continue and just follow the on screen instructions

After Windows is installed you will need to install your drivers... You should have a disc that came with your motherboard... Insert this and install the drivers off that, If your motherboard has onboard VGA/Sound etc... then the drivers will be on that disc...

If you have a seperate graphics card you will have to put the CD you got with that card in and install the drivers from that...

After your drivers are installed you can install your applications, first i would install an antivirus/firewall software and anti spyware software... After that install what ever applications you wish to use....

You are using a PCI controller card . Is this an older machine? If it is too old , your bios may not recognise all of the new 300 GB hard drive. What are your system specs?

If the PCI controller card is reading his 80 and 160 drive thewn it should read his 300 without a problem... Plus if it was an old motherboard that could not read a 300gb then a PCI controller card would resolve that problem as it has its own controller and BIOS....
