    Hi all.

I am looking for some advice. Here is my situation. My Xbox HD died on me. The Xbox is a version 1 so way out of warranty. So to get my old box running again a friend of mine chipped it with an old chip he had as he has just upgraded his. Its an Xecuter 2.6 CE. I had an old 40gig HD from a pc lying around so he put that drive in and install the evox dash for me. It all runs great. The thing is I dont save games to the HD, in fact I only use the mod chip for playing DVD's etc. I want to play on XBox Live and have been told to just turn my mod chip off, which is the normal way I use it anyhow. I have heard Live will kick me off because I have a larger drive? Is this true because I have also read it does not matter what size the HD as long as the MOD Chip is turned off? Any advice would be great. Many Thanks.

Same here, I doubt that you will get banned for having a larger hard drive. Just make sure that you turn off the mod chip before going on to xbox live, and do not go to the MS dashboard through evox.

Apperently some of you must be living under a Rock! Is it true that you could be kicked for having a non-standerd HDD? It's quit possible. It's not as if it's a sure fire bet as 'forgetting' to turn the 'Chip' 'Softmod' off ofcouse. But, there was more then just the odd story poping up. Sadly the only People who'd have a defenitve answer to such questions, are the same People who are not talking about it in the first place.

Sadly it would appear that this could be the case though. But, there are things you can do to help protect yourself. A Stock XBOX™ HDD only has Six Partitions (Five if your not counting D:\ (The DVD-ROM)), C:, D:, E:, X:, Y: and Z: (X, Y & Z are the Cache Partitions and can safely be cleaned!) that only leaves C: and E:.

C: is the Main Partiton that contains among other things the M$Dash. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you allow EVOX, Avalaunch or XBMC to Root here!

E: Is the Save Games / Soundtrack(s) Partition. Again you do not want anything to be here that wasn't there to begin with! M$ are surely check the Partition Sizes / Directory Structure of those Partitons. F: is the only known 'safe' Partition as the normal RETAIL XBOX™ BIOS can not address partitons above E:

One other thing about XBOX™ HDD's and Live! your HDD HAS TO BE LOCKED! in order for you to even get on Live! I take it this must be the case or you would have an Error 5 or 6 (I forget which but, both have something to do with the HDD not being Locked or that the HDD is Unlockable.

The only safe way to go (i.e. to have your Cake and eat it too!!), is to get an Xtender Casemod for the XBOX™ that will allow you to continue useing your Stock HDD and yet add up to Two other HDD's to your Console! This is the perfect soultion for XBL! Moders! As you can continue to use your Stock XBOX™ but also enjoy the benifets of having Games, Apps (i.e. XBMC), & Movies Backedup'd to the HDD. With a halfway decent Modchip that you can deactivate at anytime you can go from Stock to Mod with a flick of a switch and a press of just two buttons (Xtentder + Power). And never have to worry about getteing baned off of XBL!
