I just bought a new a1250n Pavillion computer from Circuit City, even tho the sales guy told me HP was crap. Anyway, i asked him if it came with OS software to reformat since i heard horror stories about no discs. He said no, it has a recovery folder on the hard drive in order to "start your computer over from the start".. thats it! is that true!?

this computer came with Media Center, and apparently a bunch of useless progs pre-installed as well. but if i wanted to reformat my computer with WinXP Pro, then apparently the mobo drivers and such wont install right or at all? does anyone have any experience with this? if this is the case im thinkin i may return this HP and just build my own again.. i was trying to save myself some work...help! thanks in advance...

Here is a classic example of why not to buy shop built PCs. Why did you buy it if it did not come with the XP disc? As soon as the salesman said no to the disc, you should have walked out of the shop.

Why oh why do people tow the line with these so called "computer shops"?

They are all a bunch of half-baked amateurs. The ONLY way to get a PC is to make one.

By trying to save work you just made yourself a lot of work. I bet he recommended Norton or MacAfee too!!

    LMAO!!!!!

actually he was pushing Panda.. so, im not SURE it doesnt have an XP disc.. he said the older ones he's worked on didnt.. he wasnt sure if that had changed.. im gonna call to find out.. but in your opinion, besides the whole disc thing... does HP still suck?
i guess it comes down to the whole package.. this is what it'll look like when its done..

    Dual Core AMD 64x2 3800+
    Media Center
    2 GB RAM
    Lightscribe DVDRW & DVDrom
    250GB & 200GB HDs
x800 Radeon ATI Video Card or 6800 Nvidia (havent decided yet)
20" LCD Widescreen Dell w/ 15" LCD HP monitor on the side

so is it worth it? if it comes with an OS disc.. or will the mobo just be a piece of $#!t not worth my time?? thanks for the help

My PERSONAL preference is to just build my own. You should choose a 7800 over a 6800. The mobos these companies use usually are crap, you are limited with firmware downloads & are limited with upgrades, due to crap components etc. What make RAM is it? The few here that have lightscribes seem very happy with them.

Basically I just hate package deals on PCs. But that is just me. Lots here would tend to agree with me on that. I would be VERY hard pressed to recommend ANY shop bought PC, Dell, Gateway, HP, you name it, I would not buy it! Aftersales service can be somewhat lacking with these companies.

It all depends on what you want your PC to do. (& your budget!)
