Hey All. I just received a very nice laptop from a friend with one catch (actually two). He had taken it to home and left it in his living room in the padded laptop case. His dad regularly practices his golf shot in this same living room and somehow smashed the living hell out of this thing with one fell swoop.

Did I mention that two days before this incident he had turned it off at night and it wouldn't turn back on the next morning at all? Well the 5 iron didn't help troubleshoot that issue.

We finally got it to turn back on after many failed attempts (the screen is pretty messed up on the side where it was hit). It still won't boot up by itself though - it needs to have hirens boot cd in the drive just to get into windows (I think just to get it kick started like jumping a car I imagine).

So he told me that I could have it because he knows I am interested in computers and have many laying around for parts - however this would be my first laptop.

Any suggestions on where to start with this thing?? I would love to be able to take out all the guts and put them in another case with a new screen but I am guessing it won't be that easy.

I'd start by seeing how far I could skip it on a local pond or lake.

You friend's dad sounds like he may be a moron, and I would bet he isn't married anymore, or the wife would have, long ago, taken his driver and knocked his ..... up in between his ears.

ouch - although pretty funny, that isn't the case. In fact, his dad was VP of a company that created something you most likely have in your computer right now. Hence the living room large enough to swing a golf club freely!

Anyway that is a pretty bleak outlook of this pc! I was hoping to just be able to do some surgery and get a new screen or new case granted the innards are still intact. I am taking out the few hundred or so tiny screws right now and diving into it. Fingers crossed.
