very strange. i have a ti 4200, and the TV out looks better than the LCD monitor for video playback???

this is very disheartening, as i spent 400 dollars getting this. newegg wont return it either. its only under sonys 3 year parts and labor warranty.

the monitor seems to be in perfect working order. crisp picture, images look great, and i have alot more space for work.

the problem is the video playback. it looks like it took a huge nosedive. like i said, the tv out looks better than the regular video playback from just the LCD. that doesnt make sense at all. i thought the picture would at least be the same quality as a CRT, but with a small amount of ghosting. i can deal with the ghosting, its not that bad. i can not deal with this quality loss from my video playback.

i dont have another LCD, or know anyone with an LCD to compare with either. perhaps people with an LCD can chime in with how well their LCDs playback video?

i have included a screenshot for you

artifacty/washed out/pixelated edges on some things

i have uninstalled/reinstalled many nvidia drivers to no avail. i am currently running ver 71.89 (those seem to be the best for me. the others have bugs with the TV out).

my video card, or PSU are what im suspecting to be the problem. one of those, or a combination. the monitor seems to be nice enough. its the SDM-s95ab from newegg. ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824006094 ) it seems like a driver issue, or a video card malfunction. it does not seem to be the monitor.

if i had a 6600GT i could use this purevideo technology

once again, i ask those of you with LCDs to post up what your video playback is like.

I can see two big problems with that monitor.
    1) 16ms is no good for video. 8ms or 4ms is really the minimum for quality playback.
    2) It is made by Sony who don't deserve anyone's cash.

For about $30 USD more you should have been able to get a 19" 4ms from say Samsung (going by prices here $AUD). One thing about LCD's is that they tend to show floors more than CRT's (especially TV's). So any video artifacts are just going to be more obvious.

    Better contrast to.

    thanks for replying

the 16ms response would only affect the ghosting, i thought. i dont think it has something to do with colors. my sony has 16.7 million colors. that samsung has 16.2. the ghosting isnt bothersome anyways.

    im thinking its what you said at the end there;

i have hooked up my old CRT to this machine, and i can see the artifacs if i look hard enough. the CRT just does a better job of hiding them (a blur if you will). the LCD has a crisper picture though, with brighter fuller colors. i suppose i just have to get used to it.

maybe a new video card will help? the 6600 GT has that purevideo....? in order to get that though, i need a better power supply (i have a stock 330 antec)

crazy money cycle there. good thing its christmas,....im fookin broke

cool, so it probably is my video card going bust. its an older Ti4200, so it was expected. stock fan, and alot of gaming was done on it. sometimes i hear a clicking noise coming from it

i appreciate someone with an LCD replying. that makes me feel better about not being able to get a refund. the monitor seems to be in perfect order, and im sure its a good LCD. im assuming the video card is going out on me, or the imperfections are standing out more now that i have a hi def monitor.

i guess when i said the "TV out looks better", i meant the video artifacts are blurred to the point of me not being able to see them clearly. the colors are very washed out on the TV, (when comparing TV out to the LCD). the LCD is much crisper, and full with color.

Das_Maja dont assume your video card is bad just yet a few things you can try

first make sure your running the lastest driver setup for your video card ,go to the site and see.

second, check your "Displays Properties" make sure your Screen resolution is set correctly, mines 1600x1200 yours is probably 1280x1024 so adjust that if needed then click Advanced ,click montior and make sure your refresh rate isnt set to high( LCDs are lower than CRTs) mines 60 Hertz ,ALSO and THIS IS IMPORTANT make sure the box is checked that says "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" click apply then ok. and your new LCD should be good to go ,let us know how it works out

Ive had the resolution at 1280x1024 from the beginning, its the only one that looked the crispest. ive got the latest nvidia drivers 81.85.

my video card's fan is making a random clicking noise lately. and when i open it up, it is pretty hot. i am pretty sure i need one of those aftermarket fans. that or just buy a new damn video card, as i have an old video card to begin with (Ti4200). i think they go for 50 bucks now.

the problem with the video was actually solved with some codec switching. i uninstalled all the codecs, and individualy installed each one that i needed. ffdshow was handling the video decoding before, and now divx is. it looks much better with divx decoding it. i feel pretty dumb now, but at least i figured that out
