Please approach this post with caution, as it is a repost from the news section over at xbox360iso and I haven't confirmed its authenticity. Just a heads up on that.

**edit, looks like this has been confirmed on mirc and xbox-scene.**

Time to change things up a bit.

All the panic and this will likely be a much better ban wave for the community than previous years. Knowing what M$ are doing before it's even released is a very good position to be in.

So if we aren't forced to update our dash to the most current could we assume we could still play these new games offline like Fable 3 on older dashboards?

MS know that there'll be people who'll keep an offline console on the NXE dash just to use offline, so they'll probably force dashboard updates in newer games. They clearly don't like people playing games offline on a flashed console and then using an unflashed one to connect to Live and update achievements, and that's one of the things this new protection prevents, but being able to stay on the NXE dash would be a loophole in that, but it's easy for MS to close it.

so if we do have a modded console is it a good idea to NOT update and NOT take it online?

Sounds to me like its safe to go online as long as your playing older games? Any opinions on that?

    So here's my story:
Liteon 7 series with LT 1.2. I've played Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock online on October 30th. Since then I haven't logged back into LIVE and i will NOT log into live to update to November 1st update (cuz that's just stupid) UNTIL LT+ comes out.
I haven't played Fable 3 or Sims 3 or any "new" games online or offline. Can I update? Should I?
What are my chances of getting banned?

At this time, no one will know until we have several confirmations from different sources. The only 1 reliable source would be C4E, other than that take it as a rumor.

Now we wait to see if it's safe to play old games, new games, etc...

So lets say in the future, MS makes new games check to see which dashboard you are using and if you are on the older one, it will force you to update or you won't be able to boot the game. Can't rippers simply replace the update with junk files or replace it with an older update?

Or, couldn't a firmware be made to tell the system that the disc passed the check? I don't see any doom and gloom about it, there should be ways to get around even that.

they already do that man, they have released games in the past with updates on them to force you to update. the update can be patched out but thats a number one way to get that box flagged if you use it on live later on. Best to just wait for the new fw and be patient if your goal is to get back on live safely. if you dont want to use live then yes you can patch out the update, or at least in the past you could.

My friends and I have seperate boxes for offline and online so we don't care at all if it makes it obvious that we are using a backup.

And I thought those updates from games were just like getting it from Live, it allowed you to say NO and still play the game.

Eh, I guess even if you are forced to update on a machine that you never take online, the new firmware coming would take care of any issues. Just trying to avoid having to do the flashing.

im not talking about game updates im talking system updates like last year when NXE dash came out there were some games that had the update on disc.

your eithere gonna have to flash new fw or you will end up having to make sure every new game you get down the line with the update on it has been patched out. that can be a pain to do with a lot of games. thats why i say just do the fw its one time hassle instead of multiple occurence
