I replaced an older motherboard today with a Biostar G31-M7. Cheap little micro-atx. Everything went smooth. I did not reload the OS, just replaced the old MoBo/Processor/Memory. Now, I do not have USB 2.0, and do now show an Enhanced Host Controller in the devices field. I'm running WinXP SP3. It was bootlegged at one time, somehow I got through the service packs. I'm having trouble trying to find the download at Microsoft. Update doesn't seem to think I need anything. Any ideas (aside from lashing about the bootleg, thanks but no thanks)?
That is the odd thing, there are no exclamation points in devices. Its like the mobo does not support 2.0 (which it does). Near as I can tell, everything is enabled in Bios. I tried disabling legacy USB support in Bios, didn't seem to do anything.
does it show enhanced controller under the universal serial bus controllers in device manager? what does it show under the network adapters in device manager? wass the 2 motherboards using the same chipset as in intel, via or sis? have you loaded the new motherboard driver disk?
Nope, no enhanced controller present, just Generic USB Hubs, Intel 82801G, etc. The former mobo was an ABIT BH7 which is also an intel based chipset. The new motherboard driver disk loaded and it seems to think all is done. The bios manual with this board shows the USB setup page as having an option "USB 2.0 Controller Mode". That option is not present in my board.
unistall the netcard & usb stuff in device manager in safemode then restart windows so can find new hardware.
Well, not 100% sure how, but problem is solved. I updated the BIOS, which in and of itself didn't cure the problem, but after clearing the CMOS and loading default settings, low and behold the High speed controller showed up in BIOS, and USB 2.0 worked like it did before. Stupid computers.....
