Hi there, hopefully some of you guy's can help me out on this as it has me dizzy. Basically my motherboard went and my mate who is pc savvy installed a new motherboard and cpu for me. I got the pc back with my old windows on it but I decided to format and put a fresh install of windows on it.... but I noticed a few odd things from the beginning. During the install of Windows when the pc is suppose to reboot it didn't. It shut down alright and some of the lights stayed on the front of the pc but it didn't reboot. On the pc there is 2 buttons on the front one is the power button and one is like a 'return' button. So I hit the 'return' button and it started up again and continued the install. I then set the time but when the installation was complete the time was back at 0:00 hours. I then went into the bios and set the time and now it is correct. But the pc just won't restart for me no matter what. I can boot up the pc and use windows no problem and I can hit shut down adn the pc will turn off, but if I hit 'restart' the pc seems to go into hibernation or something as some lights stay on the front but it just won't restart. I'm hoping this is something simple in the bios. Can any of you guys' shed some light on this please ? I'm not 100% sure of the exact make of the pc but when I power it up it say's fujitsu siemens. Thanks guys
Also the last mother board was onboard video card, this one has no onboard card but a pci video card, could this be the cause ? Cheers
Has the reset button been connected correctly? You might want to check it hasn't been wired the wrong way round, or to the wrong connector, such as the CMOS Reset Jumper.
Check & see if there is an updated bios flash for your new mainboard, many boards ship with glitches with the sleep, hibernate & reset functions. Ask your friend what mainboard & video card you have, and get the latest drivers for both.
