new pack of maxell cd-r music disc not reading

i've never had this happen to me before and i dont have a different brand of cd's to try to see if something is wrong with my burner but i burn cd's and dvd's all the time and this is the first time this has happened. i went to burn a cd today with these new disc and when i insert the blank disc it doesn't recognize that there is a disc in and tells me to insert the disc. its a gold maxell cd-r music disc it says 80 mins 700 mb just like every other disc i've used and it also says compact disc digital audio recordable. it is a gold disc with a black line goin horizontal thru the middle which has the type of disc it is written on it, and a silver music sheet going wavely from the top left corner to the bottom right and next to the stamp saying compact disc digital audio recordable there is a stamp of a person sitting in a chair, if anyone has had problems with these disc before or has any advice please let me know
