New partition without bios?

    I am buying a new 250GB 2.5 sata hard drive to upgrade my dad's new laptop with a 120GB one, what I would like to know is will creating a new partition from it being unalloted require it to go into the BIOS mode to do this?

    bios sees the hard drive, windows sees the partition(s).
