I just got a new PC with a combo CD and DVD burning drive. I've always burned at 1/4 max speed in the past. But in the options part of the program I'm using, it only has max speed in that drop down menu (Roxio, Sonic, RecordNow or something). It says in the help section that that's what the drive tells it it can do. I tried to find a new driver for the drive, and didn't have any luck.

    Am I screwed?

I would try with a different burning software like nero. See if the same thing happens first...

I won't use Nero. I tried Nero a few years ago, and it screwed my PC up royally.

I actually have found 3 firmware revs I can try, and another person said that the options might change with a disc in the drive.

I still have my old PC, and worst comes to worst, I'll take the writer from that one and put it in the new one.

Good point though, I could try a *different* writer software. :)
