I'm trying to start up a new build computer and don't know how to get drivers on it to update mobo because it won't read my hdd's so I can't put an os on it can anyone help? Mobo is a Asus p5ld2 and the Hdd's are both Seagate 300 ultra ata/100
so the bios does not see the drives correct? are the drives set as master & slave if on the same cable? is pin1 on the data cable closes to the power connector? try 1 drive at a time to see if bios sees each drive individually.
They are set to master and slave and I tryed to do them one at a time but it seems that it has to have a driver to make the eide ports work but without an os I can't do that.
ide ports don't need drivers for hd's to accept windows. check the bios to see what the boot sequence is as sata2 might be before ide instead of after.
The book says that if you use the ports that you have to load the driver off the disk that came with the mobo
that is for the sata2 connectors not ide as you normally press f6 when starting to load xp to install 3rd party drivers.
it has 4 sata ports as the book reads the two ports are designed for ulta ata 66/100/133 eide devices and you use the other ports for sata drives. someone else said to rig it so that I can load the os and do the f6 option so that it will activate the ports and then go back into the bios and see if it finds them.
Yes and I installed the os put the driver disk in and loaded that and the mobo still doesn't find them
Jaink...put down the damned book and listen to ddp! I ain't kissing his a** but he's forgoten more than you'll find in that book and the stuff he remembers will get ya up and running...at least that's my experience with him. I think he may have written the books on most this stuff.
yo dude forget about the book.you have to go into the bios and configure hard drives.i will say this slow and easy.when the pc is off, press the power button and when you see somesomething on the screen, press delete key on your keyboard to enter bios.there you have to configure your hard drives which ddp was trying to tell you. this is a machine buddy, nothing magical.poof turn on and everything works....pc`s dont work like that....put down the damn manual and listen maybe you will learn something....we are all here to help you. if you dont need help ,since you and your manual know better then we do ,then have fun with your blank screen......peace
Ok no book! When I go into bios it scans and it says two drives that flashes by quickly and the main menu doesn't say there are any primary drives all it lists are my optical drives. It says the other drives are not detected. I set it to p-ata and restarted. It still doesn't read them.
if your Bios has an option for SATA raid, disable it. What does it have listed for boot order? Did your Seagate drives come with a CD with DiskWizard, etc on it?
What I came up with is that if you are trying to install more then one ata hdd you need to put it in the red primary slot. If the bios shows your hdd on the primary ide scan and then it won't show it as a drive in the bios you should be fine to install the os on one of the drives. You can not raid the two together with the board if that is what you are trying to do, you will have to do it with xp if that is your os.
How did you end up configuring the drives? I mean there are 3 40 pin connectors 2 red ones PRI & SEC and one black one labeled primary IDE. Where did you put your dvd's or CD,s and your ata drives and were they set to master ? slave ? Cable select? When I try to install windows it says can't find a hard drive and I have a MAXTOR EIDE in the red PRI and the CD/DVD in the black Primary IDE? all set to Cable select? Haven't built a system in 4 years - this ones for my son - and they put new stuff on the MB.
put the hd(s) on the primary cable set as master & if 2nd hd on that cable set as slave. put the rom drives as master & slave on the secondary cable. connect 1 drive at a time to see if seen by the computer nevermind windows til all drives are seen by the computer. normally will set drives to master & slave but not all cables are the same so if master/slave configuration doesn't work than try cable select.
This MB has 2 red connectors that say Pri & Sec EIDE and one Black one that says Primary IDE. I assume you mean to use the Pri and Sec red ones? and ignore the one thats labeled Primary IDE? BTW thanks for the assist!
