I've been using Slysoft's programs for almost 2 years, burner is HP MovieWriter DC3000, always use Verbatim DVD+Rs. Suddenly I'm getting media write errors nonstop. I can't burn a DVD at all. I LOVE CloneDVD and really do not want to switch programs if I can help it, but I'm at a loss. The ONLY thing that changed between being able to burn disks and not being able to was taking down my system/network and moving it into another room. Everything is plugged in exactly the way it was before the move, and I can burn CDs with no issues. The DVDs will copy to my hard drive with no problem. One got to 98% on a burn before it gave me the media write error. I spoke with a gentleman yesterday at a local puter store, and we're both of the opinion it's a software issue of some sort because I can burn CDs either through just copying something off my puter or by copying a disk with CloneCD2. I DLed Alcohol 120 yesterday, but the image was too large to fit on one disk. I'm sure there's a fix for that, so I'll search it out after I post, but I'd really prefer to stick with Slysoft if at all possible. Does anyone have any suggestions about what may be the problem? (And my disks were made in Taiwan, I see those aren't recommended, so I'll see if I have some made elsewhere. I've been using the same disks for almost 2 years, though, and only get a media write error maybe 2 out of 100....this time I've gotten it on 30 disks straight. I've never checked where the disks were made before, though.)
This could be caused by your discs, what brand are you currently using. I use Verbatim which are made in Taiwan, no problems with them.
TheAurora-- First, welcome to the forum--sure hope I can help but I am NOT an expert, although have been burning successfully for years. If you can post the actual failure log, that would be great I use the same programs as you do and also love them--first thing I would do is to completely remove CloveDVD2 and re-install---OR if it is the CloneDVD--same thing---[bold]with a complete re-boot in-between all steps![bold/] One of the other options is one you already know--try another program--I actually prefer DVDShrink and Imgburn for many movies--free and available here- Good Luck and I am confident that you you will other (maybe better!) advice here--I learned everything I know from this site Whitfield
@Gwendolin that was TheAurora's first line! LOL he/she uses Verbatim disks. Try cleaning the computer (do a registry clean up after you uninstall CloneDVD, defrage your hard drive, do a spyware/virus scan clean up, then reboot and try a new install of CloneDVD!). Test the drive again and see if that corrected the problem. Then there is the option of doing a system restore to a point where the computer was running fine. good luck and we want to know results. let us know what's going on.
Need to correct, I am using CloneDVD2, not CloneDVD, LOL. I tried following this guide: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shrink.cfm Still haven't figured out how to make Alcohol 120% put it on one disk. I did run out and buy some Maxell DVD+Rs, the 3pack from Walmart, it's currently at 35% on a burn, we'll see if it makes it all the way through it. (It made it to 98% with the Verbatim and then croaked, so I'm not going to hold my breath YET) If this works, I guess I'll have to chalk it up to get an entire stack of bad Verbatims, though I've never had that problem before, UGH. Whit, if the disks aren't my problem, can you tell me how to find the failure log? 12 minutes left on this burn, so I should know quickly if it is the disks. I'll post again as soon as it either fails or succeeds. IHoe, can you recommend something to clean up my registry? Whether it's a disk problem or not, I really need to do that. System restore isn't an option, this started about a month or so ago. I will try the registry clean up and a total removal and reinstall of Clone, though.
Well, good news and bad news, LOL It wrote the Maxell, made it all the way through, but neither of my DVD players will play it, ARGH! I'll grab some new Verbatims tonight and see if those work, and if not, on to the suggestions you all have posted for me.
IHoe, I'm inclined to agree with you. I bought a new spindle of Verbatims(Taiwan), and it's doing the same thing with them. I'm trying to install that registry cleaner, and it keeps "not responding" as soon as I open it to install. I'm going to try to download the other version of it now, if that doesn't work, do you know of another reliable program? Whit, I don't have any of those right now, I quit buying them when I discovered my DVD players won't play them
Well, no luck. I've deleted all Slysoft's software, defragged, run AdAware, SpyBot, and RegSupremePro, and then reinstalled Slysoft, and I get the same error. I'm at a loss now as to what to try next. I can use Roxio's Easy CD Creator 5 to burn a CD-R, but if I try to make a data DVD, it tells me I have no supported DVD-Recorders on my system. (I'm pretty sure it's always said that, it seemed familiar when it poppedup) I tried using Arcsoft's ShowBiz2 to burn a DVD and got this error message: "An error occured while creating your new DVD." *edited to add: CloneCD also gives me an error burning a DVD :-(* Can this possibly be my burner??? I've updated my burner driver and software from HP's site, and that didn't do anything. I just don't understand how it can burn a CD-R but not a DVD? A friend told me it should be the same laser burning both? Is there another software as easy to use at CloneDVD that I can try to burn a disk with? Barring that, if the consensus is that it's the burner, is there a list somewhere of compatible burners for Clone? My local puter store said I probably don't want the HP burner with LightScribe, said I want something with TAO and DAO? Does that matter for Clone? *edited to add* If I need a new burner, what is the benefit to getting a dual layer burner. To my knowledge, I've not encountered anything that required dual layer, and I'm assuming for a dual layer disk, you burn on both sides? (I'm totally ignorant about layers, LOL)
just want you to know that Roxio interfiers with DVD burning software.... I know it interfiers with Nero.... so maybe that's your problem, Roxio! here is the Roxio Zapper....... uninstall Roxio then run the zapper: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml now try and see if that helps
IHoe, thanks for the suggestion. I removed Roxio, and no luck, though. I'm still getting errors with the DVDs, but CDs are still fine.
CloneCD said the disk failed to burn, CloneDVD says "media write error" and to check the media, I believe. It doesn't give any specific error, just the media write error. Whit said to post the failure log, but I don't know wheere to find that?
It's an HP Movie Writer DC3000. It's between 15 and 19 months old, I'm not sure the exact month I bought it last year. Burned somewhere around 1000 disks.
