Okay, so after months of crappy sound from my TV when my receiver broke(at least I think it did), I have decided to get a new setup. I'm not sure if my receiver is the problem or the speakers, I think it is most likely the receiver because it doesn't even turn on for longer than two minutes anymore. I think there may also be a problem with one of my surround sound speakers, there is always a crackling sound when I first turn the reciever on, any ideas? These are the options I have and all have to be covered within $200. By the way, I'm not planning on buying from Circuit City, just used as a research site because of the reviews. 1)Get a home theater system, I don't need it with a DVD player. I had this in mind: http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=119802 2)Buy a new reciever and test if the system works with the old speakers. a)If it works then keep the receiver with old speakers and sub. b)If it doesn't work then return it and buy from choice one. c)If it doesn't work then keep it, buy new surround sound speakers and test those. These are the receivers and surround sound speakers I'm thinking about: http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=115330 http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=108880 http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=77906 The room is about 13X18 feet. Any help is appreciated.
Also, I was looking at the impedance, short term and long term power of the speakers, here is what they are: Center: imp-8 ohm, short term-100 watts, long term-70 watts Front(2): imp-6 ohm, short term-110 watts, long term-80 watts surround(2): imp-6 ohm, short term-90 watts, long term-60 watts the previous receiver said 8 ohm for all the speakers so does that mean that they could be under that, or do they have to meet that? i think it's under. the reciever also states that it is 120W per channel, is that why the receiver is all messed up?
If your old receiver is cutting off, after being on a short while, you may want to check both ends of the speaker wires, for each speaker (speaker end and receiver end). Make sure the wire isn't frayed, and touching something it shouldn't. Re-twist the ends, put them back in, making sure of good connection, and double check the receiver. It kinda sounds like it's going into the protection mode, and turning itself off, to keep from burning something up. Main cause for this is a frayed speaker wire. The smaller number of ohms of a speaker, the more power it draws from the receiver. If you use 4 ohm speakers, with a receiver that's meant to use 8 ohm speakers, you can damage the receiver. Or it will go into protection mode, and cut off. Good luck! I hope you figure it out. Also keep this in mind when buying and hooking up a new system.............
well the receiver i think is totally screwed cause it goes turns off even when it's not plugged into anything now. so if i have the receiver which supports only 8 ohms as said on the receiver and i hook up 6 ohm speakers are they meant to work?
2 ohms difference, one way or the other, shouldn't make a difference. The 6 ohm speakers should work ok.............
I'm just going to buy the Sony home theater system with a four year warranty. I just went to Best Buy and saw it, the sound is fine for me, I'm not a mega audiophile.
@kinza if you are looking at the sony, i have a receiver (sony) that i am trying to sell, its a model waaaaaaaaay higher then you are looking at and is in the price range you are looking to spend. semd me a pm, i will give you specs and details if you like....
alright everyone, i got this: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/LG-H...sem/rpsm/oid/108553/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do AND I LOVE IT!
haha........ you would have been better off buying mine !!! doubt it puts out 600 watts, but oh well. good luck with it. i think LG makes an ok product, i only have one product from them, its the LDA-511. dvd player, i had to return my old LGDVB418 cuz of audio lip sync problems, the 511 is simply awesome ! plays everything !!!
i also douht that one of thoes "all in one box ultimate surround speakers!!111" is rated at 600, or what ever they claim, its all just a marketing gimmick, save some money and buy real HT eqip.
like i said before, i'm no audiophile and im completely satisfied with every aspect of the system. and NO i would not have been better off buying yours.
awww kinza.......... at least make me feel better by showing some guilt!!!! i am 70 dollars closer to my prize. i made 70 bucks in tips today at work. i still need 400 more dollars to go !!! i am currently accepting cash payments made to me!! send em pay pal to my account !! hehe !
put yours side by side on my old sony................ blow your doors off !!! just pokin fun kinza...... no worries
