Hello, I am building a new system and (yeah I'm stupid) I believe I got the wrong power supply for the motherboard that I purchased. The PSU that I got is an Antec 550w powersupply, and the motherboard is an Abit k8n Ultra socket 939. The problem is that the motherboard has the following power connections: 24 pin atx main connection 4 pin 12v connection near the cpu 4 pin 12v connection that is "recommended" The powersupply that I bought does not have the right type of 4pin connector for me to plug the power supply into the 12v connection near the cpu. I am sure this is required for the system to run. Would it be safe for me to buy an 8pin to 4pin 12v adapter in order to hook the powersupply up to the 4pin connection near the cpu? Here is an example of the adapter that I am talking about: This would beat having to buy a new powersupply or having to try to RMA the one I bought in error. Any feedback about this is appreciated, if you need more info let me know. Thanks
I also have found another type of adapter that seems like it will work. It converts a 4pin 12v harddrive power connector to the 4 pin 12v atx. Here is an image of what that one looks like: Would there be an advantage as to choosing one type of adapter over the other? Or should I just buy a different power supply?
Ok, I solved my own problem. As it turns out, and due to poor antec documentation, the 8pin 12v connection had a clip that when removed, split the 8pin into 2 4pin 12v connections. So, my power supply had the right connections all along. Talk about undue stress! Mods, you can lock this thread, delete this thread, whatever you need to do. Thanks to all who read this.
