Have been reading about Cyberhome CH-DVR 1500. How do you know which unit has been upgraded? I bought one today at Walmart for $248 but haven't opened box yet. Also bought Panasonic DMR-E50 for $378 and haven't opened that one either. Last ones in store and wanted to choose better unit. Want to be able to record off tv to be playable on other DVD players I own. Also, had DVD's made of old home movies and want to be able to copy them for my relatives. Possibly, want to make copies of DVD's I already own as backup for when I travel just like I do with VHS format tapes. For my personal use only! Any help/suggestions would really be appreciated. By the way, I'm not locked in to keeping either of these recorders; prices seemed to be good. Thanks!
the panasonic gets better reviews. I have not heard anything about the cyberhome, but if it is like their standalone dvd players, it is not too good. the panasonic will make copies of old home movies that should play on other standalones. It will not make copies of copy protected movies---i.e. store bought dvds. It cannot make those backup travel copies that you want.
