Hi There I’m new to all of this burning stuff …I have been given a copy of dvd x copy by a friend ( I don’t know how genuine it is ) it didn’t come with a manual and all the other stuff so I don’t know how to burn DVD Movies onto DVD-R/RW media …can some one please tell me what most of you out there use for burning your DVD’s ???? I have burned a movie onto dvd-rw …it plays fine in the PC but when played in my DVD player it wont load and play ,the Player is a Pioneer 355 and is a multi region player and in the manual it says that it will play DVD-R/RW media if it is in DVD Video format …with dvd x copy you are not given a choice as to what format to use …is there a better software out there ??? what do you use ??? Thanks Martin
Hi Martin, Welcome to the world of "DVD Back Ups" First things first, please checkout that your Pioneer is capable of playing DVD-R discs. Not all settops are, BUT, Pioneer are better than most. Now, to your problem. I am aware of DVD X Copy, but have no experience of using it. Now, give this a try. Create yor files with DVDXCOPY as normal, then before burning it, use a programme called "Ifoedit" (search the Net, it's free) Load your movie, open the *.ifo file, and select "get VTS sectors" then burn. Just might do the trick. HomerJ
Hi Martin, Hi Homer, I have a little experience with DVDxCOPY, you could kind of say this site endorses it (well, at least it advertises it) so we have loads of other forums/threads for more information when you get stuck. What it does (and the jury is still out on whether it is a good way or not) is cut out using lots of different freeware/shareware.software. Let me explain. Before DVDxCOPY, everyone had plenty of opinions (still do actually, opinions are like arseholes, everyone has them !) on what was the best way to back up DVDs to DVD-R. This is all very subjective and depends on varying degrees of technical proficiency. Then DVDxCOPY came along and did it all in one package (actually some purists think they ripped off some bits from other people, but anyway...) and now anyone can backup a movie onto a couple (or one if you are lucky) DVDRs. Now there are plenty of people who love this and loads more who hate it. This is possibly because (and I choose my words carefully) certain people who have the benefit of great technical expertise/experience have spent (I am guessing here) 1477 hours figuring out how to use SmartRipper, (or DVDecrypter), IFOEdit, Nero, and other pieces of software besides and are pissed that any old fuckwitt can come along with £99 and piss on their parade. Now call me jaded, call me cynical, but this might all be claptrap! However, Having used both methods, I would say: If your time is important to you and you don't want to struggle with software from a bunch of different (albeit nice) chaps from all over the world who aren't actually working in one company and you don't mind your backup being on (probably) two DVDs (and you have $99, as I would urge you to purchase your copy from the link in this website) use DVDxCOPY. If you are a purist (or perhaps too poor to fork out $99) and want to fiddle with various bits of free, but temporamental software, then have a look through the articles, download the software and be prepared for an experience not dissimilar to root canal without an anaesthetic. Now it is quite possible that it is getting on for midnight and I am tired and jaded today, but I hope that the advice is sound. Oh and here is the link for checking your set top box. http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php But from what you have said, I think your machine works. I also think judging from your post, that although you have the basics, you might find other software a struggle, as you are new to this, although in the long term is is more rewarding. If all you want to do is backup DVDs quick and easy, use DVDxCOPY. Paul.
loaded, Many pearls of wisdom you jaded, cynical, person (your words, not mine. (sic) lol !! I do believe that DVDXCOPY is getting better by the day (especially since Derrow joined the team) HomerJ
Thanks for that... I will try different media and see how that goes as for the dvd writer it should not be the problem .... I have found out that the settings in my dvd player were not set correctly and all is well now..dvd x copy is simple and quick to use ....thanks everyone,,Martin
