OK - please be patient as I am new to burning dvds (and Nero) as well as this forum. I am looking for a bit of help to get me on the right track. I purchased a dvd burner (NEC 16X DVD±R DVD Burner IDE Model ND-3550A) and some dvds (FUJIFILM 4.7GB 16X DVD-R Disc) and have installed the burner into my PC. My PC consists of P4 1.6ghz, 80GB harddrive, 512MB of RAM. I have three full tapes recorded from my Canon Elura 80. I have captured the video from tape to PC with Windows Movie Maker AND Nero (in dv-avi ntsc format). The version of Nero I have is 6 (came with the dvd burner), and has in the Applications section 'Nero Express, NeroVision Express SE, Nero Cover Designer, Nero ShowTime, Nero MediaHome, Nero Media Playet'. Three 60-minute tapes, took up 36 gig of HD space - seems like a lot to me!!! Now I want to edit the videos (make menus, chapters...etc), but cannot seem to get it to work. I have used dvdSanta to convert, but it has a 'DEMO' title on the top and bottom. I have also read to use dvdShrink to get the clips smaller in space size so they don't kill my HD. But, I can't get that to work either... Any help, advice, criticism..etc. is appreciated. All I'm looking to do is take what I have on tape, capture it, convert it, edit menu/chapters and burn to DVD so I can show my friends/family on a TV. Thanks!
This is where I used dvdSanta, however it has that DEMO line on the header/footer. Do you know of any other conversion software, or should NERO 6 be able to do that for me? Thanks!
I'm not sure how visionexpressSE differs from the full version - but that oughta be way to go! You can (with the full version) interface directly with the camcorder - and pull in your DV-AVI. In this case try make movie (or make DVD) option, import your DV-AVI's into the project and save tem as Divx's, avi's, mpegs or whatever - never save to .wmv unless you're sure you have the original someplace. You end up with terrible quality or big files and you kind of beat yourself up every day for the rest of your life for having erased the original! This is I reckon as good a place as any to start - try having a look at your version of Vision Express and see what you can do with it! Cheers!
Thanks for the reply. Do you know where I can get the full version of Nero? I have captured them as .avi files, and then had to convert with dvdSanta, and was able to burn to dvd. However, when played, not only did they have the 'DEMO' line of the top of the film (from dvdSanta - trial version), but I was unable to create menus or chapters.
I personally would advise against Nero Version 7 - I have had a personal nightmare with it. 3 Months to install it and then nothing worked properly - quite literlally! I think you can still download version 6 and install it as a demo - and then just purchase a licence for it online...... (that's the legal way of doing it of course!). That said you should download this version: http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe reason being, I have been having a few problems with Ver 6 as well. At creaky's advice - I am further downgrading to this same version myself having gone from Nero 7 to Nero 6.1.1.4 in recent weeks and am now clawing my way ever closer back to where it all begn! I am assured this version is the most stable and most widely used - so why not? And Creaky for one is one of those folk around here who do make a heck of a lot of sense as well as offer great advice! I would advise acquiring a licence for the 'Ultra'version... then download the latest versions of the rest of the bundle NeroMix/Nero Media Player/ and Vision Express (Naturally - as this is what you're after..... Do not upgrade Nero_Version_no_yt.exe though! Nero 6 Downloads Page: http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/nero-up.php Good Luck!!!!
I have upgraded my firmware on the DVD burner, and got the Nero 6 upgrades as well (except #3 as I didn't want to delete Roxio), so I'm going to try to capture, again, the video with Nero, and try to burn from Nero....I was diong that before, and Nero would say 'disc is bad' or something like that - I just read that firmware updates might address that issue - so I'll give it another shot. I didn't know that burning from camcorder to dvd was such a hassle!!
Anyone know if Nero 6 has a avi-to-dvd converter? If not, how about some freeware software that does it? I tried dvdSanta and WinAVI, but both have watermarks on them.... Thanks!
