i moved recently and had N*L replace what was a old cable link box in the sitting room.

yesterday i connected the sta*vie* to it and its giving me no signal.

when i connect the pipe to the tv directly i get no channels. Does it have to be activated or something to work?

sounds like you are disconnected at the dp (green box ). unless you open the dp and connect yourself, it will not work.
you can call your local cable company and subscribe to the cheapest tv package, then swap your box with there one. cancel your tv package and hope they dont disc you in the dp again.
a friend done this and months later it is still working fine...

    hmmm

    green box you say.

i presumed because there is no tv signal coming in that i would have to get it activated.

you have got to find out if your pipe coming in is live.
what ever you do to your box will not matter, if the pipe is dead.
do you know someone with a box that is working ? if so, try there box in your premises.

not really. i know the box is alright. tested it in my mothers place up the road.

by putting it in my tv and scanning should tell me, yes?

Your cable feed is dead that is why you are getting that message or else you have the cable in the wrong slot on the back should be in the cable input on the box but as you say when you put the cable into your tv direct you have no channels looks like they disconnected you instead of replacing the cable you will need to contact them
