Hi I have installed ubuntu on my pc and wanted to know how to install other apps such as nero burner, dvd shrink, aim, ect. I have bin an xp user for a long time and was looking for a new os to try. I have heard good thing about ubuntu and am looking foreword to making it my main Os if possible. Any bit of info will be a great help Thanks in advance
Those programs are for Windows. You want to use native Linux equivalents, which exist for each of those. To install there is a really obvious menu item, unlike on Windows you rarely have to trawl the internet to find something to install, it is all packaged up for you already so you just need to work out what you want and pick it from a list of available programs. Nero try K3B DVD Shrink try K9Copy AIM try Pidgin If you want to find what is available, just google for "[the program name or type] linux equivalent"
Thank you very much OzMick this info is very helpful.I will be looking into this. If any one can add to this please do.
Check this.. http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/Linux_software_equivalent_to_Windows_software ubuntu uses a package management system (synaptic) but you will need to enable the full set of repositories for multimedia.
