New UPC digital boxes

Heard from a reliable source that if you get one of these new Thompson boxes installed that they use Hagravision2,which means that the "other" digiboxes wont work with this.Any truth in this?If its true could be the end of the "free" tele.

I can only tell you what I know, I have seen a superbox working in a house with a CC PVR box also, this was last sat and no problems or issues,

If the last subscriber got his new box UPC simply switch off the old cracked nagravision1 and the game is over.

 

mgb, for them to do that, they would have to do it area by area and be confident that everyone has a box thats capable of doing that, that aint gonna happen anytime soon..........

 

Yes, currently they broadcast both 1 & 2. If they ring asking to change your box it is in your interest not to be co-operative. It is a nightmare to get them out when you have a problem, but I have heard they are bending over backwards to change the boxes, sending out guys on saturdays to do it, you get to pick the time etc. So tell them the only time you will be in is midnight on saturday when a blue moon is in the sky!

When all are changed they can turn off the nagra 1 feed. At that time boxes would need updating, and some may not be able to cope with it. A linux based box is your best bet. I would recommend an itgate TGM220 since the sellers give good software support and seem pretty confident that it can/will handle nagra 2.

 

this wont be a for while yet............ with regard to the itgate, nothing has been proven if it can or can't, just some one saying it will, namely the seller, not casting doubt on the itgates ability, but like anything, when the time comes it may come out on top or may not......

 

Sorry to butt in guys but if I were thinking of buying a new st*rview 3 super for kids room (was on their xmas list) would I be better holding off and see if this box can handle nagra 2

 

you will be a long time waiting for an answer mate, as no one knows what will work or what wont, for me, I would get the cheapest box you can get for your money as I wouldnt be investing big in a box for a kids room, for me a SV3, EuroV etc etc from a genuine seller, unless you know Linux.... which the itgate runs on,

 

tks mate, so it,s not a forgone conclusion that an sv3 is a non runner as regards to nagra2 as you say no one knows until nagra 2 goes live.

 

We get one every few weeks, due another one fairly shortly......
