new video card, blank screen

I just removed the video card from my old xp machine into my vista (ive checked and its compatible with vista) but when i put in the card the screen doesnt turn on. There is no software or instructions for the card. Ive read that it could be the power supply, so i switched the power cords and the screen still did not turn on. The computer seems to start up with the card in it but the monitor just doesnt show anything. When i remove the card, the computer boots normally. Is there some sort of software i need to install or something?

 

you may have to enable it. the card may be disabled, and the onboard is still enabled.

 

So, i disable the onboard and shut it down, then when i put in the new card it enables itself or do i boot the system up and turn it on? Wouldnt nothing show if the onboard wasnt on?

 

I havent a clue what type it is, all i know is that it fits. I dont wont to apply to much pressure on it because im afraid it will break. Also, i just tried disabling my onboard and putting the new card in and the monitor still would not turn on, as soon as i remove the card the monitor has the image though.

Like i said in my first topic, it seems the computer starts up but theres no image to tell that it works.

 

Did you update the drivers for the card?
If not, I would try that also.

 

I know. I realized that after I posted my question.

 

So, i should try putting more pressure onto the card? What do i have to do with the BIOS, i dont even know what it means.

 

What is the make an model of the video card?

Before doing anything to the card, make sure your computer is shut down. Then, disconnect the cable from your monitor, take out the screw holding the video card in, pull the card out, reseat it, screw the screw back in, reconnect the cable to your monitor, and boot the computer.

 

Ok, this may sound dumb, but when you installed the video card did you switch the signal cable from the on board video to the installed card?

 

I do not know what the make of the card is, it has no engavings or tags or anything. And yes, i am using the cards plug-in and not the onboard.
