Thanks for looking at my post, I've got a quick question. I'm going to get my xbox chipped and get a new hard drive, but I've got an old hard drive I used to use for storage on my PC, so what I would like to know is would I be able to format the drive in windows so it was completely blank and use it as if I were to buy a brand new hard drive from a PC shop, just it seems a waste of money when I've got a 40gig hard drive lying around unused. Obviously I know that to use a PC hard drive I need to get it chipped, so I plan to get an xecuter 2.6, hard drive and then set it all up using my slayers 2.6 disk If anyone has had any experience with using a previously used PC hard drive in their xbox could they advise me. Many Thanks, Ian
You dont even need to format it, the xbox will do it for you. Just pop in the drive and the disk you use (you use slayers, I prefer AID 3.0) and tell it to format the disk.
Ah right, I'm thinking of getting the xecuter chip and having someone local fit it for me, alternatively I could just get the no solder xapter for it and do it myself, but I'm scared of breaking it. My current hard drive has error 7 so I'm gonna get that chip put in, put the new hard drive in and use the slayer disk to reformat it, you think that'll work alright? Cheers for the help aswell! Ian
It should work perfectly, bu as I said, I prefer AID 3.0 becasue it has everything you need to install a hacked xbox, including the dashboards, and apps.
My torrents don't work anymore so I was forced to buy a copy of Slayer from ebay, and I dont think its possible to download a copy of AID using anything other than torrents due to it being (I think) illigal. I havnt actually used the slayer disk as obviously my xbox doesnt work, hence the new hard drive and chip, but from what I've read slayer contains all the apps and dashboards in its auto install, if it doesn't I wont be happy!
I could have swarn they were only on torrents, oh well I'll get AID then, could you tell me what advantages AID has over Slayers 2.6? Cheers for the help Ian
Slayer's autoinstaller is outdated compared to AID 3.0, which is why everyone recommends using AID instead. I've only used Slayer's personally, and I've even used it on a Xbox 1.6 with an X2 CE without any problems.
So what are you saying? Are you saying that you can put your used hard drive into an Xbox and then pop in your slayer or AID disk and you can get it to work?
Yup. As long as it's chipped, a hard drive swap is as simple as removing the old one, installing the replacement, and using an autoinstaller to set up the hard drive with all the necessary files and partitions.
It only has to be chipped if the installer wants to avoid using xboxhdm or setting the hard drive up on a chipped Xbox with Config Magic prior to installation on a unmodded Xbox. The reason for this is that a chipped Xbox can use an unlocked hard drive, whereas a stock or softmodded Xbox can't. So the hard drive must be prepped if it's to be used on an unmodded Xbox.
Because I just tryed to format my Xbox hard drive with NewHDEvox and it didn't even run the disk so that made me think that I needed it to be chipped but will it work with AID without a chipped Xbox if the harddrive is unlockable?
