I successfully used Studio 9 Pro to burn my first ever DVD (about 40 min worth). Made the mistake of going to sleep, content that I would face no problems making additional copies of the DVD. Subsequent attempts to burn DVD "omit" first half of movie. ??? Since it is movie of my daughter's marriage, I'm under more than a little pressure from my wife to complete it. As a consequence, I've gone braindead. Used DVD-R disks with internal burner on Sony VGN-290.
Let me see if I understand your problem. You have one master copy of your daughter's wedding that is A-OK. You are trying to make additional copies and they aren't coming out correct. Is this a correct reading of your situation? If you have a working copy that is correct just make copies of that instead of burning the video files again from your HDD using Studio 9. DL DVD Decrypter and install it. The link is in my signature below. Go to the Mode menu and set the mode to ISO Read. The name of your DVD burner should appear in the Source menu. Insert the DVD that works. Determine the Destination location for the ISO file to be stored. Click the disk icon to start the ripping (copying to HDD) process. When that's finished after a few minutes: Change the mode to ISO Write. In the Source menu locate the ISO file you ripped earlier. The name of your DVD burner should be in the Destination menu. Insert a blank disk. Set the Write Speed to 4x or no more than half the rated speed of the media. Click the hard disk icon to start the burn. Repeat as necessary. The link to DVD Decrypter is in my signature below.
In my opinion, the best way to make a copy of a copy is to use nero. If you don't have it, you can download the trial version and try it from here; http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/nero7-demo.php Just use it's DVD-Copy application to make a disk to disk copy. It will create an image from the original/copy and cache it to a location on your hard drive, when its done it will ask for a blank disk, insert one and let it do its thing (keep the write speed at 1/2 the rated speed of the media). If your trying to make a copy of a copy and are having problems doing it, this is how I get it done without ever having a problem. [bold]How to Make a Copy of a Copy Using Nero[/bold] You successfully backed up a DVD, do you need to use DVD Shrink again to copy the already copied DVD? Nope, Nero allows you to make a identical copy of the already decrypted copied DVD. Insert the DVD your trying to make a copy of in your DVD-ROM +/-R /RW drive and let it be recognized. 1. Run the nero burning rom application from the smart start menu under application. The wizard screen should pop up on top of the main Nero screen. On the left hand side, you may need to tell Nero if your making a "CD" or a "DVD" copy. Of course you would be making a "DVD" copy, so simply click the down arrow and select "DVD" as your choice. (Illustrated in the screen shot with the red arrow.) Screen Shot Below: [image]http://img159.exs.cx/img159/5742/nerodvdcopycompilationscreen5q.png[/image] 2. After you have selected "DVD" as your preferred compilation type, now click the "DVD Copy" icon. (Illustrated by the blue arrow.) Screen Shot Below: [image]http://img159.exs.cx/img159/5742/nerodvdcopycompilationscreen5q.png[/image] 3. Now for configuring the tabs at the top. There should be 4 tabs at the top. "Image", "Copy Options", "Read Options", and "Burn". I will take screen shots for some of the tabs instead of explaining each one completely. 4. The first tab, is the "Image" tab. See Nero makes a image of the burning process and what files are attached to it. Then you simply load that image into Nero and burn it. (Nero does it automatically if you are using "DVD Copy" compilation.) On the "Image" tab, the first box is the "image file" box. This is where you want Nero to save your "Image". ( I always save my image to the desktop, cause I delete it right after I burn the copy of the copy.) Click the "Browse" button to the right of that box, to choose the destination for the image. (Whether it be on your desktop, in your "My Documents"folder, where ever.) 5. Below that box is box to put a check mark in if you want Nero to automatically delete the image after it has successfully burned the image to disk. 6. The "Hard drive speed info" is next on that tab. I don't know what it is, so I don't even bother messing/changing it. 7. The next tab is the "Copy Options" tab. Here you can select how you want Nero to copy. Although burning with the "On the fly" option is faster, it is not recommended. Next option to change on the "Copy Options" tab is selecting your source drive. (The drive with the original copy.) Then under that is the "Read Speed:". You can select what you want here. I have mine set at "3x (4,155 KB/s)" to eliminate possible read errors from reading to fast. 8. The next tab is "Read Options". (Just going to post a screen shot of mine) Screen Shot Below: [image]http://img33.exs.cx/img33/2117/neronewcompilationreadoptionst.png[/image] 9. The next tab is the "Burn" tab. (Again I'm just going to post a screen shot of mine.) Screen Shot Below: [image]http://img33.exs.cx/img33/6274/neroburncompilationtab2kt.png[/image] 10. Instead of maximum, set the write speed to 4x, 6x, or 8x (try to set it at no greater than 1/2 the rated speed of the media), click burn and your done! Note: If you have only one combo drive, nero will prompt you for blank media when it finishes caching the image before the actual burning process can begin.
Thank you laddyboy. Followed instructions i.e. dl DVD Decrypter Ripped copy to Hard Drive Attempted to write to blank disk and rec'd following error message: I/O Error Device:[1:0:0] Sony DVD RW DW-D56A (e(ATA) Scsi Status 0x02 Interpretation: Check Condition Sense Area 70 00 05 00 00 00 00..... Invalid Field Parameter List Thought for a minute I had it. appreciate your help
I think this is a laptop burner, correct? Is this a Dell laptop or some other brand? What brand and speed of disks are you using? I suspect your burner's firmware is likely out of date as well. The firmware version will be a 4 letter/number designation after the name of your DVD RW drive on the top line of the right hand column in DVD Decrypter. E.g. Sony DVD RW DW-D56A PDS6 Repost the above info. Laptop burners are usually more problematic but we'll try to get things straightened out. In the meantime you could try Nero as John suggested above. The advantage is that Nero has a burn log that provides a lot of diagnostic info. If you try Nero and it doesn't work, post the burn log. It is located in the following path: Program Files -> Ahead -> Nero -> NeroHistory. Nero captures the results for several consecutive projects, so only paste the last section that begins with: ===== *** Nero Burning ROM, History File *** ===== followed by your name and program serial number. Edit out your name and serial number before posting.
My sincere thanks to laddyboy and to JohnL. I know have copies of the wedding and associated events thanks to your kindness in responding to a newbies plea for help. Nero proved to be the answer. It wasn't perfect in that some of the DVD's, when viewed, exhibited minor hesitations when playing them. I just made additional copies. Thanks again
magicjbf, what you describe is likely due to media incompatibility with your burner, usually the result of using poorer quality media or media that your burner's firmware doesn't fully recognize. The best media is Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, and Made in Japan labeled Fuji and Sony. You could also check to make sure your burner firmware is up to date. Glad you got your copies.
@laddyboy, I started a thread today but could not seem to get the answers tho Rotary was very helpful. Pls excuse me, Eng is my 3rd language and I am very new to this tho I seem to understand the way you explain things better. I have been using 2 slots DVD Rom as source and LG4167B DVDRW as destination (blankDVDR). I now wish to remove the DVD Rom and repl with CDRW to burn my cdr since the DVD burner does not produce excellent CDR copies. SO NOW... I will have only the DVDRW to read, write n burn. Following your method (DVD decryptor), is this the best n most simple for me to get quality DVD copies on my dvd+r. My priority is QUALITY of the copied movie. What do I do when I have a DVD9 that I want to split or compress movie only? I need a simple method like you wrote earlier. Don't say shrink. It is too hard for me. Do I then need a 1 click prog? Thks to all help.
cynn, The instructions I provided for DVD Decrypter only work when making an exact copy of a DVD5 to a blank DVD5 or an exact copy of a DVD9 to a blank DVD9. Otherwise, if you have a DVD9 that you want to backup the main title from or compress, you have to use some type of rauthoring program to do so. There are many available. DVD Shrink is a free one that most probably use. Do you have problems using it even by following the guides available? Another I could recommend to you is Nero Recode from the Nero suite of programs. It is easier to use than DVD Shrink and has options for compressing the entire disk, the main title (i.e. movie), or other selected portions. Nero has a fully functioning free trial and is here: http://www.nero.com Nero can be purchased cheaper on sale at stores than online from Ahead Corp. But download the program from online to try it out. Just be sure to set the target size to 4300 or 4350 in any program you use to avoid burning to the outer edge of the disk where you'll likely lose information. There are many other commercial programs as well like CloneDVD2, DVD Remake, 1Click, etc. If you are backing up commercial DVDs that are copy protected, you will need a program that can decrypt and overcome whatever protections are there. For ease of use, I would suggest the commercial program AnyDVD. It works in the background and makes any disk appear region free and unprotected. It has a free trial version as well and is worth the money. http://www.slysoft.com Otherwise you will need to first rip (copy) the disk to be backed up to your hard drive with either DVD Decrypter or DVDFab Decrypter, both free. DVD Decrypter is no longer updated so it doesn't handle the newest copy protection. DVDFab Decrypter is updated. Since you want the easiest approach, you should use AnyDVD. It also has a ripper program should that be needed.
No, I didnd't have problems with DVD Shrink, in the first place I have neverused it becos I cannot understand many things...I am computer illeterate So for 1:1 DVD Decryptor will give me PERFECT QUALITY as the original? I have burned DVD5 with Sonic record Now (but Sonic does not allow file in computer) and Nero, the copied quality is much sharper for Sonic, so I do not want to touch Nero at all. Considering this problem with Sonic, I would like a 1 Click prog that copies excellent movies only (copyright is not an issue, I am copying other type of movies) what would look good on a 42" HD TV after movie compression only? Has anyone experimented? BTW, if I get a one click prog, that would solve everthing right? I wouldn't need a decryptor etc etc? Thks everyone and laddyboy
You would still likely need AnyDVD if you're making a copy of anything that's newly copy protected. If Sonic wouldn't copy a disk, it's because the disk was copy protected, hence the need for AnyDVD or some other decrypter. Nero and Sonic Record Now both do the same thing. There is no way that one would make a sharper image than the other. Copying is copying. However, I think Nero is a better program than Record Now. I don't think they're even comparable. Now if you used a program to compress images, then differences from the original will result. In digital copying, a 1:1 copy is identical to the original in every way. As for large screen HDTVs, unless the main movie has compression below 80% or so, you won't be able to tell the difference between the original. Most main titles only will require little to no compression.
What I meant was Sonic does not allow movie to be backed up in HDD automatically when I copy disc to disc. I have never had a movie I was unable to copy probably becos I copy different type of movies, not Hollywood movies. Real weird becos I copied with nero twice (VCD and DVD) both times Sonic was sharper. I admit nero has more functions which I don't need. Hmm, you probably are not a quality freak. I have copied 1:1 using trials and there is a difference. Thks laddyboy for helping me out. Appreciate it
