Newbie getting started. Done (most) my research. Is the following correct?

Newbie to GC modding. Have Executer-3 in XBOX running just fine forever.

Goal: To grab ISO's posted to newsgroups, and play them just like I have done with XBOX.
I am not interested in ripping games, or playing GC games on my PC, etc. I plan opn obtaining ISOs,
burning them, and playing them on a modded GC.

I am still reading this thread (and other sites), but would like to state what I believe
are some correct statements, and see if you folks can tell me I am right or wrong.

    1) ModChip is best technique. I will obtain QOOB PRO and install it.
Or should I get a Viper GC? QOOB PRO seems to be favorite.

1A) modchipworld.com seems to be the best place in U.S. to get this chip. They are currently out for a week (they say). Is there a better place?

    2) Buring ISOs using Nero works just fine. If you choose to burn to Ritek G04 mini's,
that is your best chance for success. If you go full-size DVD-R, you have to mod your case, or
buy a case replacement (or run topless).

    3) QOOB Pro installations are slightly different between GC revs. You will know what rev you have once
you get to the motherboard. Once there, choose "Diagram-A" or "Diagram-B" for soldering install.

    4) "Direct Booting" is the term given to bypass this "boot from PSO first, then insert desired game" style of
playing... right? With direct booting, you put your copied DVD-R in, and turn on the GC... just like a real
game. Is this correct? (Forgive my lame description of PSO technique, I have not studied it
yet, as it seems to be or is becoming obsolete. That could be a false statement).

    5) Before or after install of QOOB PRO, flash with QOOB Flasher 1.1 utility to install QOOB PRo bios V1.3 (or
    suggestions? QOOB PRO V1.3b3? b4?).

    6) Question: What is the QOOB lid switch mod for? I think there is one. Not sure.

From there, once BIOS is loaded, you can start the GC and select 'B' to go into the menus.

    7) What is this "Action Replay" disc , as it pertains to "providing the cheat engine"?

    8) Came across mention of "LooneyCubes utility" for makeing multi-game DVDs (more than one game installed on DVD.
But link to it was dead. Anyone have a link handy? or does another version this type of utility
for making multi-game DVDs exist elsewhere? (that works, right, with the QOOB PRO bios) ?

Summary: In order to reach my goal above, I simply need to get and install a QOOB PRO chip,
flash it, get some Ritek g04 minis, burn some ISOs pulled from the Net, and run them. Its that
    simple (?)

    thanks!

    1) I have a Qoob Pro installed and I'm quite pleased. It has some flash memory onboard, so you can load apps from it. From what I understand, Viper GC has very little, so loading anything besides the bios isn't really an option from the chip itself and you have to load it using other methods I haven't bothered reading up on.

1a) Can't help you here, since I got mine from a UK site since the Xecuter GC case wasn't available on US sites at the time.

    2) You have the right idea.

    3) Revision A and B install the same as I recall, and Revision C is slightly different.

    4) Direct boot is the ability to boot a back-up without having to swap an original game beforehand. It didn't have to be PSO, just any original copy. Since you're getting a chip anyway, you don't have to worry about that. It was more of a softmod issue really, but that changed recently with the release of the newer Ninjamod bios and GCoS teasers.

    5) Qoob Pro bios 1.3c is the newest, so use that. If for any reason it doesn't work, just get 1.3a as it's supposedly the most stable 1.3 bios.

    6) I *think* it's so the Qoob supports back-ups that have multiple disks such as RE4 and MGS: TTS. I know it disables the lid check while the Qoob Pro bios is running though.

    7) If you get a copy of an Action Replay disc, you can use it to "unlock" the cheat engine on the Qoob Pro. I don't remember if it already has the engine on the chip and it just needs to be unlocked with an Action Replay disc or if it flashes the engine to the chip.

    8) http://gchack.free.fr/utils/
It's also on modthatcube, but I think it's down at the moment. It works fine with Qoob Pro.

Answer to summary: Basically, yes. You *might* have to adjust the laser module's pot if it isn't able to read your back-ups right off the bat though. So just be sure to leave the GC partially disassembled so when you test your first back-up you won't have to go through the trouble of tearing it completely down again to get at the pot.

    Venom,

good stuff. thanks for the reply. Especially!! your last point. I could see my self re-assembled when realizing I have to go after the POT.

Regarding the POT: I have seen at least one poster state that if 1) you can read normal GC games just fine, and 2) you use Ritek G04 Minis, then you should NOT have to adjust the POT.

Did you have to adjust yours? I know modthatcube has a decent tutorial on it, but I didn't read it word for word.

Yeah, found the Looney multidisk util. It was bundled under a different name on modthatcube. Grabbed everything from there I thought I would need.

What are u talking about? AR is just cheating tool, technically saying: u can change any register values in game with it.
And unlocking the cheat engine? what is the point of disabling cheating option in modchip? ppl are already paid for it, so it cant be a shareware thing.
    ----

backups work better if u disable "burning protection". That protection makes sure that atleast 1GB is burned, but it's useless anyway if u burn over 1GB image :/ Best just to disable it on all GC image burnings.

    EDIT:typo

I worded it that way since I couldn't remember if the engine was built into the bios or if it was flashed to the chip off the Action Replay disc. I only remembered that the cheats option shows up on the menu even if you can't use.

I took the time to check it on the website just now and found that the qoob Pro rips the engine off the Action Replay disc.

I have a question about the Action Replay codes being used with the Qoob Pro chip. I flashed the cheat code engine to the chip. I boot up and go to the main menu and there is an option for cheats. I select the option and it tells me no cheats are installed. How do I install the cheats? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You have to flash them to the qoob Pro the same way you do applications.

If I remember correctly, mario's cheat code compilation works fine on qoob Pro. So try looking for that. I think it's available on modthatcube.
