Im new to burning dvd's and i need some help and i hope i came to the right place.Im trying to burn a t.v season on a dvd but when ever i converte it i can only fit 2 episodes ( one hour each) on to a blank dvd. Im useing 4.7 gb dvds now i know you can fit more something like 5 episodes on to one dvd. I have bought home made dvd's tv seasons off of ehay before they used 4.7 gb dvd's and the quality was very good to.There were 5 episodes on per dvd So why is that i can only fit 2 episodes on one dvd im sure it's something very simply im doing wrong like not useing the right progam or something

its a torrent file so dvd shrink wont work it only works with dvds when your copying from dvds to blank dvd's right but thanks anyway
Well i was hopeing for more replys than this o well i think ill just give up on makeing my on dvd's then thanks for the help
The amount of material you can fit on the disc is dependent on what bitrate you use. If you are encoding using a constant bitrate of say 4000kbit/s that means that for each second you are using about 1/2 of a MB of your disc, or about 30MB/min, or about 1.3GB/episode. If you want more on a disc, use a lower bitrate. 3236kbit/s would get you about 4 episodes per disc, 2543kbit/s would be about five 44min episodes. Keep in mind that lowering the bitrate isn't magic. It can cause blockiness, stuttering etc. The fact that these are downloaded means that they are almost certainly compressed quite a bit, so using a lower bitrate on this material might be ok as it's bitrate is already pretty low.
Where did you get the TV episodes from? What format are they in? When you say 'converting' what exactly are you doing and with which program/burner? - you can't expect decent replies if you don't give full info.
Ok im so sorry like i said im still new to this so here i go. I got the tv episodes from torrentspy.com they are avi files.Im useing nero to burn with. I Downloaded Justice league unlimited the Cartoon for my son .Well the first season was in Image file .iso SO i just put that file on a blank dvd and it held all 13 episodes and the picture was great even had a very nice menu that was made by the person who uploaded them.Well when i downloaded the 2 season there were just 13 avi files and they are about 350 each but when ever i try to put them on a blank dvd i can only fit 6 episdoes max and then the picture is not that great. So i guess what im asking is what did i do wrong why was i not able to put all 13 episodes on to one dvd. Is it because the First season was in .iso file. If so then How do i put them into Iso. file. The dvd's are 4.7gb I would really like to start Burning other things for my son to So any help would be great Please im stuck i dont know what to do any body. And i was useing TMPGE 3.0 EXPRESS to do i guess its called converting it turns them into mpeg. files But when i ever I try to use it it says "could not open the video part of the file only able to open the audio part of the file God i know this is alot on yall's plate at one time but please Im at my wit's end
The original disc ISO that you burned was already a DVD. You didn't need to convert anything, the guy who created it did a good job and had it all set for you. Now you must convert AVI yourself and that's completely different. If you REALLY want to learn how to do this you of course could learn, but is it really worth your time and aggravation to do so? Personally, I think taking divx and turning it back to DVD doesn't make sense. You're just wasting time learning, time converting, using much more disc space per episode than divx, and it looks mediocre in the end. One alternative is to just go buy a $60 DVD player that supports Divx. That way you can enjoy watching the files without converting them, and you'll be able to store at least 12 of those 350MB files per disc.
No i can't fit 12 350 files on a blank dvd thats my prob i can only fit 7 at most on a blank dvd when i leave them as a avi file
I have DVD X Copy Platinum,which I have installed,it wont copy the DVDs it shows CSS Encryted, how do I get it to copy the dvds

You said each episode was 350MB? Well 350MBx12.8=4500MB which is the size of a DVD. I don't care how many episodes you can fit using Nero or whatever, if you buy the DVD player that supports Divx like I suggested you don't have to convert, and you'll be able to fit 12eps per disc.
Jigen But for a couple of your concerns, there is one thing I would like to point out. The DVD size is based on a 1000 based system rather then 1024 (which is the true size system) I do not agree personally that DVDs should be labeled 4.7GB, as they only truely hole 4.36GB. Let me do some math for you to explain a little better. 1000 based system 1000bytes/1Kb 1000Kb/1Mb 1000Mb/1Gb so according to this system the DVD should have 4.7 Billion bytes of information. Now lets take that number and put it into the true size specifications 1024bytes/1Kb 1024Kb/1MB 1024MB/1GB so 1024³x4.7 this is equal to 5046586572.8 bytes but a dvd only holds 4.7 billion bytes, so we work out 4,700,000,000 / 1024³ = 4.37.........ect now count in lead in/out and minus about .01GB for that, So by true size specifications, the accual amount of data that can be held onto a DVD is 4.36GB with lead in and out (for compatibility).
I know how it works. Thanks. As I said 4500MB allows for 12.8 episodes, so even if you limit yourself to a few 100MB less than max, which some people do to "prevent bad burns", you'd still be able to fit 12.2 episodes.
All episodes on seperate avi files can be converted to mpeg or DVD files using DivXtoDVD software (a new version with a name change has recently been released). After converting you can try putting as many of the new files onto one disc using nero. If you only put one episode on one disc you can burn automatically in DivxtoDVD.
