It is a holiday weekend..thought I would use it with burning in mind.

I am not burning originals.. I am burning torrents..more like expirimenting.

I have tried to burn before.. an original and I did not have enough hard drive space when shrinking..so deleted everything and gave up then. Now I am back for more technology punishment LOL I don't know if you can click on a name and get posts from the past, but if you can... you can see what I am talking about, if not.... short story...learned how to rip..and then found out my puter was LAME. Needed more space... FINALLY was able to afford an external hard drive. As since an external hard drive was not a priority..I took my time in getting it.

Now I have an external hard drive and am looking forward to making copies of my originals for the tots. So they can have their fun too...without destroying my originals.

    Anyway......

    currently downloading 2 torrents.

one is an Xvid - stg
    the other is a DvDrip

I hope I am not over my head with this.

Downloaded the DVDFab 5, DVD Shrink, and IMGburn. I also have Nero, but I heard that stinks for this process. I think I have the burning of originals pretty much figured out, but once I have these torrents finished. Where do I go from there?

Any suggestions I am all ears :)

    Help and TIA!

We can take baby steps for you :)

1st, you won't need DVDFab HD Decrypter for the torrents as what you are downloading has no encryption on it. You will also not need DVD Shrink for the torrents as the DVDRip should already be of a size that will fit onto a SL DVD without compression. Hold on to Imgburn for the burning later.

What you need for the xvid is DVD Flick (free), and possibly WinRAR if when you open the movie and are confronted with 3-40 files...simply right click on any of the R** files and choose extract here to get to your avi. Load the xvid into DVD Flick, create an empty folder with the name of the movie on your target drive and then create the DVD. When DVD Flick is finished open Imgburn in "build" mode, browse to your newly created DVD movie and burn it directly to disc.

For the DVDRip you will either have an ISO or a VIDEO_TS folder. Open Imgburn in "write" mode if you have an ISO or "build" mode if VIDEO_TS and burn to disc.

    indeed how correct you are.

I finally got one torrent downloaded and used imgburn. It will play on the PC...but forget it in a DVD palyer LOL

I was downloading another torrent that was taking forever and everytime I tried to get int he forum it would take forever. Torrent finished and I have my browsing capabilities back :)

The one torrent was indeed and avi file and the other did have rar's which I hadnever experienced before LOL so this has definetly been quite an experience today. Thank you so very much and I am going to now flick and rar so I can enjoy more technology abuse...much to my neglected husbands dismay *grins*

(been on the computer or the laptop all day...even the stupid laptop was acting up)

After you burned the movie to the disc it doesn't play in the standalone DVD player? Post a log from Imgburn please...Imgburn->Help->Imgburn logs. It might be a good idea to post the log before you waste another disc burning your avi conversion, if it's a disc/burner issue chances are the second one won't work either.

AVI is a compressed file. Only DVD players with divx will play this. If you want to convert it to DVD format you will need a DVD Authoring tool like DVD Flick that was mentioned above. This will encode the file into the correct DVD format.

I'm only assuming that the one that was burned directly with Imgburn was the DVDRip.

Nah...it was operator error. I went straight from downloading torrent to burning it to disk on the DVDR. I couldn't get on the forum when I was downlaoding the other torrent. So I did not have the DVDFlick knowledge.

However.. I have it now and the only reason I have not responded is it took 7.5 hours to switch from xvid to dvd with the DVDflick. Is this normal? I am currently burning it now to DVD disk after letting it run all night :) Wish me luck! and Thanks a ton...baby steps kept me from pulling my hair out.

It is overwhemling and frustrating at first with anything new..and then when you have two rugrats and an annoyed husband...it didn't help my personality or state of mind any.

I'll let you know if I was successful in my quest at burning a torrent :) LOL

Indeed. It could be dvdrip in dvd format that is stored as a rar file which will need de-compressing or and it could still be in avi format as all the dvdrip could indicate is the quality thus originally ripped from a dvd and then converted.

The process can be long indeed. If your more looking for speed of conversion and maybe a slight loss in quality then you could always have a look at WinAVI. It's quick. It will make a menu for you but you have limited control on it apart from like chapter lengths and so fourth. It is not free either but bet like your dvdrip torrents a fully working version could be obtained via the same method. A demo version on Winavi Video Converter can be also obtained at http://www.winavi.com/en/download/download.htm

    Check your DMA....here is a guide ~ http://www.burningbits.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2986

Open your torrent folder for each movie and post a screen shot for us please. ctrl+alt+prtsc will capture the active window, then open paint and ctrl+v to import the image into paint, then save as. upload to photobucket or imageshack and post it here in this thread so we can see what you see.

    EDIT:
If you are burning with a USB drive you don't want to try to burn that fast...try 8X-12X max. It would also help to post the entire Imgburn log.

after replying...my stubborn self went back and tried burning it again..this time at a speed of 4...and it worked. I got the entire movie on the DVD....but the sound is awful.

While I was doing this...my IRL torrent guru called. He told me that I want to the the Video TS file and use the DVD Shrink to shrink it. The he recommends using DVDDecrypter ro burn it...but if I want to continue with IMGburn since thatis what I seem to be more familiar with.....

Oh...and the DVD I burnt will not play in my newer DVD player. But it will play in the old ones...but like I said..the sound is awful. I hear alot of scratching and very little of the audio. Want to hear something more head scratching? I have a portable DVD player...and other than missing parts of the screen (apparently this movie is widescreen and the portable is not) the sound is perfect on the portable.

After finally getting the one burnt, I am now using gurus advice and DVD shrinking it. *sigh* What a bunch of work huh..... I'm learning way too much in one day *giggles*

Just kidding.. but a huge high five for all of you for helping and I did manage to get it burnt.. now just to figure out the quirks and start fine tuning :) :)

I'll get you all screen shots later.

I am currently on the laptop...not the PC... I don't dare do anything on the PC while it is burning or encrypting/encoding. Especially burning...it has a nasty habit of throwing a fit and kicking out the CD or DVD I am currently working on.

More familiar with making copies of my original CD's for the CD player in the truck...if I am ripping or burning and decide to do anything...including browsing the web... it has a cow. So..just for safety sake while doing anything like that... I just don't let anyone touch it while it is doing it's thing LOL

I just growl and tell the tots not to even get near it LOL Don't even breathe in it's direction LOL

I rarely see torrents that require DVD Shrink to compress it...chances are the file is small enough that it won't require DVD Shrink. This is where the screenshots may come in handy to reduce the extra work that may be unnecessary.

I told him that :) That I shouldn't have to shrink it. Checked my DMAs.

Primary and secindary both say "DMA if available"

    but then in the primary
device o is running Ultra DMA Mode 5
    device 1 is not applicable

    secondary
device o - Multi word DMA mode 2
    device 1 - PIO mode

what is that all about anyway?????

My burner is an external. my computer, I consider to be too old to take to the computer guy and have him upgrade it anymore. Been upgraded twice in the last five years. So rather than take it in and have internals put in.. I am usuing USB externals (this includes the new hard drive)...if that helps any....

The screen shots you want..do you want the shots that are still in my C drive or the F drive I moved them too after flicking? Or I should say do you want the shot before I used DVDFlick? I still have the original on my C drive....

    Locoeng -

sent you a PM on burnbits :) with the screenshots.

would have sent them to you here... but I don't see a private message feature.

The copy/paste for IMGburn...it is gone.. I can't get it back. But the only reason I did not post the entire thing is because it was just a repetition of what I mainly posted.

think I have it all under control now. It was all new to me and I wasn't sure exactly where to go...and with electronics..one wrong button move and your toast.

Thanks... I have it successfully burnt...but I think I will just stick with making copies of original DVD's for the tots... torrents are ...wow.....

my stubborn self will attack a torrent on occasion. I have episodes of programs to burn for hubby since he misses all his friday shows while working. This was alot of help and a learning experience that I will now have under my belt :)
