I found this forum tonite and I sure hope you folks can point us in the right direction. I admit we are totally green newbies at this! We have some movies on our hard drive and did burn a couple of them with Nero v 6.3.1.17 and they do work, the problem is it takes forever, like over two hours each to get to the actual burn process which then takes just a couple of minutes. Based on this thread below, I think the problem is they are indeed .avi files (we've checked this!) and I did download DivX to change them to mpeg2 format, but how do I do this with DivX? I think I need advice on where in that program I am to do this. Geez I can burn a music cd just fine, but this sure is a whole new ballgame to me! I thank you in advance for any help. Funkynassau ***** the file you have downloaded is it an AVI.If so you will need to convert that file to mpeg2 before you attempt to burn it with your Nero. heres a free version of vso DivX to dvd.Run your file through it and it will be converted to mpeg2.Once you have achieved this then open your Nero and add the converted file.
Dear funkynasa, You may try convert the avis into dvd compliant format with e.g. VSO DivxToDVD (free version), then burn with Nero: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/vso_divxtodvd_free.cfm Good luck!
Thank you for your reply. I will give this a try and let you know how it goes. I am surprised at how complicated this all is...but I am stubborn and will figure this out sooner or later Funkynassau
or how about downloading the latest updates for your nero, http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php and do all your movies with NeroVision Express. NVE is pretty quick and straightforward once you get the hang of it. and whatever you do, pls don't install InCD, i've heard it mention here time after time that InCD is bad news.
Ok, now I need more help...I did do the downloads suggested above. I wanted to burn a movie that appears to be saved as a RealPlayer file, no idea how that happened, but that's what it looks like. I can open it on the computer and watch it but dont seem to be able to burn it. I've tried the programs I have for burning and get told it's an improper format. How do I make it something burnable as a dvd? Also, I ran that converter on a different movie on the hard drive and it wont burn. Please dont dump on me for being clueless, I admit I am new to this, and just need some basic direction to get started. I thank you in advance. Funkynassau
Ok, problems partially solved! I did burn a movie with success, but the colour on it when viewed on tv is lousy, it's closer to black and white than colour. When viewed on the computer it's got lots of colour. What's the problem there and how to I fix it? I used Nero Express for that burn and the default settings. The other movie I ran thru the converter as suggested above, and when I try to use Nero Express to burn it, I get told it's in an unexpected format! How do I fix that? Can I put it back to an .avi file and then have it work? Also, the real big complaint I have is how freakin' long this takes! It took 2 hrs to burn the movie with a bunch of coding being done first, the burn itself takes but a few mins. I'd like to speed that up a LOT! but how? Also, it took close to 2 hrs to do the conversion on the 2nd movie I mentioned which has to be way too long too. I read about people burning movies in less than half an hour - what's the secret to their success? The computer I have the burner in is an AMD 2 ghz with 512 megs of RAM. I am willing to buy more RAM if it will help. Thanks Funkynassau
Dear funkynasa, Let's deal with the avis first: 1) You may be missing some codecs. Try download and install K-Lite Codec Pack (mega version), then try again with VSO: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm 2) VSO does not work with rms or rmvbs, so for those files, you need to convert with e.g. Winavi. Good luck!
Hi, That last link takes me to a place to download hotbar! No thanks for that one! Did you type it wrong? Funkynassau
No, just tried it, worked perfectly o.k.. The site is also VERY clean, neat, and friendly. Could it be something on your end? P.S.: Alternatively, try download K-Lite from AD: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_players/k-lite_mega_codec_pack.cfm
