ok, I just bought my first Pioneer DVD Writer the other day and after installing everything, I was never able to burn a thing. I was using Ulead's MovieMaker program and I tried Nero 6 and things were looking good during the transcoding process and once it came time to "burn" it would give me an error message just before the burn. After trying everything, I took the player back to the store and traded it in for a Memorex Recorder that was surely compatible with 98 SE. Brought it home and it seemed to finally write until it got to about 40% and then I'd get the error message. After going to the product website to flash the firmware, the flash program hung up at about 5% and I had no option but to manually shut the computer off. I went back to flash again and the same thing happens. LED on my player just keeps blinking during the flash hangup. Not sure now if this has messed up the chip. It still plays DVD's and shows up in Device Manager. I have done everything from trying 2 different sorts of DVD-R and DVD+R media on both players, ran ASPI check and got the right files to make sure it was working correctly, checked IDE cables, reinstalled the software that came with the drive twice! Nothing is working!! I even did "msconfig" and only had systray to start on open to free up all RAM. I have an Athlon XP 1.5, 256 MB RAM, 120 gig HD, Win98 SE. Im getting ready to upgrade to WInXP as I see most complainers with similar problems also running 98 SE after exhausting Google with search strings. Maybe Im just doing this wrong. Using NeroVision Xpress, I follow the guidelines and simply add an mpeg file, hit "burn" and go. It seems to do the whole transcoding process on it's own. Then I hear about Audio_TS and Video_TS folders and .VOB files. I tried that process too. Nothing. Which is the correct way? Im lead to believe you have to go through TMPEG ENC to transcode to VIDEO_TS and then use Nero to retrieve that folder and burn. Im using programs that seem to do it simply and all-at-once. WTF? This should be simple for me as I am pretty good with computers and have had no problems with Nero and CD writing in the past. Help me
you my friend have a lot of reading to do, maybe start at the link below. http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/ Take a look at shrink , and there is a great tmpgenc and tmpgenc dvd author guide there as well.Other ones to look at are decryptor, nero, etc. If you want to get free software to try just search through the software tab at the top of the page, Best of all read ,read ,read, try the software read some more and if you have questions ask away there are heaps of people here to help you
hi firstly you seem to be having quite a day, so lets see if we can get to grips with your problem! are you new to dvd ripping/encoding/converting process? just so i know how much to explain when replying to you! ok, what was this first error you got from nero? what did it say? and i might add it sounds like your configuration/hardware is a problem on first glance at this? but we will see... flashing the drive may have killed it now!!!!!!! not sure? if you can read dvds and its seen in device manager then could be ok? need more info on what you are trying to get from and to what! as much info on this as poss please....
I've done lots of reading and checking message boards, FAQ's, guides, the whole 9. All I want to do right now is take a simple 100 MB Mpeg file, burn it onto a DVD, and watch it in my living room. Urrgh!! THis is another problem.. Im not sure if I killed it with the flash. I made sure to use the right firmware that corresponed with my Recorder.
hi ok this is saying your setup is A O K! use the free app DivxToDvd and it will convert it to vob/ifo/bup then burn those files in nero by placing the files in a folder nero makes byitself called VIDEO_TS you get this by clicking the tab button DVD ADD-Video if nero is suspect load the vob/ifo/bup to dvd shrink and hit backup there you will see a screen saying output to dvd decrypter, which this app will burn the iso file made by dvd shrink... dvd shrink dvd decrypter DivxToDvd are all FREE! and i recommed them myself!!!!!!!!!
Ill try your way and see what happens, I feel like I've tried every other way as it is.. After the "burn process failed" and checking out the log, I get a "communication" error right before the burn. Also, it seems like Nero is already doing everything. It seems to convert the mprg into .VOB files in the Video_TS dir as it is. Wow, never knew this would be so complicated. Let me check out your method.
hi here are a few pics to see what you are looking for! check your drive firmware here in nero info tool
ok Rotary, after using DivxToDVD, my 10 minute file was split up into 7 different files after going through Nero and Adding that single file under Video_TS. It's transcoding vts_1_.1.0001 to vts_1_.10007. Does that sound right?
could you list them! they should be like this! VTS_01_1.VOB VTS_01_2.VOB etc etc........ with ifo and bup files of course do they play in powerdvd ?
yes, the files look like that with the extensions whenever I go directly to the folder with Windows Explorer. However, with Nero when I "Add File" and get to the folder I come up with one file called Vts_01_1.VOB. No other files can be seen where they should be seen.
the .bup files do not seem to have an icon like the .vob and .ifo files. The icon for.bup is a windows icon which seems to tell me that there is no program to open them. Is that a problem??
ok, did exactly as you showed, this is what I came up with in the LOG.. if Nero is suspect load the vob/ifo/bup to DVD Shrink and hit backup there you will see a screen saying output to DVD Decrypter, which this app will burn the iso file made by DVD Shrink... did you check nero info tool like the pictures above???/ time to look at hardware if the dvd decrypter wont burn it!
hmm.. Im gonna have to get back to this at a later time. Thanks for the help Rotary, but that Communication error bugs the crap out of me. Ill catch up later and check out your last couple of methods. THnaks again
i had ALL kinds of problems with a pio 109...had to send it back and got a NEC 3520. been burnin' like mad since...
