Newbie need help please !!

    aite .. so i downloaded a movie ... its a dvd rip in .AVI format with a size of 720 mb . I want to burn and SVCD of this movie

    . I am completely confused as to what im supposed to do next.. The more i read the more confused i get...

    Do i need to convert the file from .AVI to .MPEG ??
    ...
    Do i need to make this movie into TWO cds ??
    ...
    What programs give out the best quality for an SVCD ??
    ...
    Any help will be much appreciated

    Yes, more specifically to MPEG-2. There's a huge difference between different MPEG encoding standards and SVCD (as well as DVD) uses MPEG-2.

    Most likely, good quality SVCD can be achieved by putting around 50mins of video to 80min CD, which means in most cases two CDs.

    TMPGEnc -- free "no nags" trial avail, costs $48 to register or CCE -- costs $2,000.

    Please remember that the original material effects the quality a LOT. If you make SVCD and DivX out of DVD, the quality is pretty much the same, but once you do SVCD out of DivX, quality will be worse (as it would be as well, if you would convert SVCD to DivX).
