just started burning dvd's and iam having a few issues with skipping and pixelation. iam using dvd shrink 3.2/decrypter.here is what im working with:
    P4 2.54
    1G RAM
    80G harddrive
    SONY DVD RW 16X DWQ28A
    DVD +R Ridata DRD+4716-RDCB50(disc has 16X)

under the burn settings tab on dvd shrink, my only options for speeds are (max,6,8,12,16). why isnt there a 2 or 4 speed?

since im using 16x discs, what would be the optimal speed setting when burning? maybe half what the disc reads??

last question, where is the best place to change my speed settings, on the dvd shrink program or when i click on my burners proeprties under write speeds?

    im so confused.please help

As far as I know DVD Shrink is not a burner, it uses either DVDDecrypter or Nero, you can make any adjustments when you select Backup in Shrink.

4x is the best.. i use 8x on my mac.. but that's because i know it works fine..

you may wanna test out the waters with a few dvds at maybe 8x.. see how those turn out.. then do it at 4x.. see if you can tell the difference..

@mistyguam, if he uses DVD Decrypter to burn after using DVD Shrink then he can lower his burn speed to 4x, he can also do this if he uses Shrink/Nero

@mistyguam, you seem to be a happy little ADer, glad to see you got your problem sorted out, however not everybody has these progs.

@azburner if you go to this link and follow exactly you'll be burning with the best of ADers. http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/petesguide7.html good luck.

@mistyguam, please dont think I am putting your ideas down in any way, I agree its OK to try different ways and getting the same result just that changing methods mid stream can become confusing..the guide I directed azburn was written by one of our MORE KNOWLEGABLE AD members, it worth having a look at for future reference should you wish to try something new. Cheers and keep up your input, its welcome.

    Nero - a-ha...

...let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar. You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

    - EDIT OUT your serial number

    - ASPI layer is corrupted, try this, version 4.71 from here - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/aspi.cfm

    - Nero's too old, latest 6.x version is 6.6.0.16

    - i think firmware's up to date

    - yup, Nero's too old to recognise your burner, download "update package 1" from here - http://ww2.nero.com/enu/nero-up.php

    - DMA needs to be ON, fix via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

    - CDRALW2K.SYS is part of Roxio. try uninstalling Roxio (doesn't always play well with Nero), then you might need to fully remove using Roxio Zapper - http://www.microadvantage.net/utilities

Also, the ASPI drivers are supposed to be listed in this section, along with the ATAPI drivers. sort them out as i've listed above and they'll appear in this section
