I*m looking at purchasing a one-click transcoder and I*m down to Instant Copy and DVD Copy2 or I may still use Shrink. Is there much difference between all 3 products at 20% compression? I plan on using CCE Basic and DVD-RB for anything greater. Currently, I use DVD Decrypter in file mode. But from reading the board it appears that some prefer to use ISO mode. Is one better than the other? Does it matter if one is using it for main movie only as opposed to everything on the DVD? I read somewhere that Disney movies are more difficult to burn. Is it more difficult if I use DVD Decrypter and then a one-click transcoder or would I be better off using Shrink since I can decrypt the DVD from the same program? Lastly, where would be a good place to purchase software? Any recommendations would be helpful. Sorry for asking so many questions. But I*ve been reading these boards the past couple of weeks and now I*m in the *paralysis by analysis* mode.
I think Shrink+Nero settle everything. There's no need to spend any money unless you have money to burn. Shrink gives you enough control. I think Disney DVD is hard to burn that is because lots of them are DVD9. You can get a DVDFab free edition to split it into two, but you will lose the menu.
you've picked the top 3. Good job reading the threads. DVDCopy2 edits better than InstantCopy8, quality wise they are close very close. IC8 costs 25.00 while dvdCopy2 costs 79.00 Rebuider/cce is 59.00 and like you said, I only use it for very large movies, or for a high bitrate. Any re-authoring in shrink is going to cost you menu function, however with either of the other two you could re-author in shrink and then use them to compress. They are going to outshine shrink in the compression area even at 20%. DVDCopy2's editing is alright and you will keep menu, I don't care for IC8's editing at all. You may want to consider a little app called DVDRemake, best authoring tool I've seen out there, especially at 25.00 or 39.00 for pro. I still use Nero Ultra 6, the best all around prog out there, for everything you get, 49.00 at eagletronics. Lotsa choices, these are the ones I use and I do have and use all of them. PS-Disney can be tuff because of all the angles, with these apps, I have no problem at all. Good luck _PS-[bold]chinabee, I disagree, I don't have money to burn, but I do believe in quality and for money, there are apps that give much better quality than shrink. That's the reason I have and have paid for the aforementioned programs.[/bold] _ _ _X_X_X_X_X_[small] [bold]GO VOLS![/bold]..Dell Media4600, XP,Pentium 4 @2.80GHz/800Mz,512MB,280HDw/8MB,17" flat panel,AIO-A920,8xDVD-ROM,integrated 5.1 audio, HPdc4000,PlextorPX-708UF,LiteOn SO[/small]
Hi out there, I have purchased I copy DVDs2 and also downloaded DVD Shrink 3.1. I have the latest NERO and Unlead DVD Movie Factory Deluxe. I can't burn DVD's yet. Everytime I use Shrink the program freezes while analysing after 72% or so. I am sure this problem has been addressed somewhere but I could not find it. I am using XP, 1.79GHz and 384MB. I am not that computer literate and any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks out there
clarels, If you have Intervideo DVDCopy2 and you have Nero Ultra 6, then you do not need to use shrink. Shrink will rip it for you, but you want to use recode2 in Nero or IV's dvdcopy2 to do your re-authoring and/or compressing. Download DVD decrypter, you will use this to rip, it's fast, good, and FREE. You can find it here in AD. Decrypter will rip it to your hard drive. Open Nero's recode or DVDcopy2 and use the file you just ripped from decrypter as your source video. Run these programs as you normally would, you can re-author(take out extras) and/or set compression(more on extras you keep, less on movie) and burn. Recode and dvdcopy2 are 2 of my favorite programs. Copy2 is fast and unbelievable quality! Recode is easy and does an excellent job as well. With these 2 there is no need to use shrink, since it does the same thing, but won't retain a working menu if you re-author in it. Do you know how to use these programs? Here is a little quickie guide for recode: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3/89791 about 3/4 of the way down. _ _X_X_X_X_X_[small] [bold]GO VOLS![/bold]..Dell Media4600, XP,Pentium 4 @2.80GHz/800Mz,512MB,280HDw/8MB,17" flat panel,AIO-A920,8xDVD-ROM,integrated 5.1 audio, HPdc4000,PlextorPX-708UF,LiteOn SO[/small]
Thanks BigOrange, Can DVD-RB do main movie only or can I just use Decrypter to extract the main movie files and go from there. Also, do you happen to know the pros/cons to using ISO mode instead of File mode in Decrypter.
Rebuilder will do what you give it, you must use CCE basic with it. You can't re-author in rbldr/cce, that must be done first. You can't re-author in decrypter either. I prefer file mode in decrypter, because I only use it to rip, and then I'm going to use the folder it created in dvdcopy2 or recode or Instantcopy 8(my main 3)to re-author and/or compress, then burn, because all 3 of these have their own burn engine. If you were going to burn with decrypter you would use ISO files, but if the file was over 4.3 you would have to re-author and/or compress 1st. If I'm going to use rbldr/cce, (I only use on extremely long movies btw), I would first re-author (I have a little app called ddvdremake, an excellent tool for re-authoring, 25.00)with another program first, here you would only re-author because rbldr/cce are going to reduce the size. Soooooo, in answer to your question, after all that, is , no, you can't get just the main movie from decrypter and then burn in rebuilder/cce. You can however burn ALL the files from decrypter in rebuilder/cce. I prefer to remove some extras, not all (I like alternate endings, outtakes, and deleted scenes) and then compress and burn thus improving pic quality, thus the reason for re-authoring. _X_X_X_X_X_[small] [bold]GO VOLS![/bold]..Dell Media4600, XP,Pentium 4 @2.80GHz/800Mz,512MB,280HDw/8MB,17" flat panel,AIO-A920,8xDVD-ROM,integrated 5.1 audio, HPdc4000,PlextorPX-708UF,LiteOn SO[/small]
Thanks for the information and rest assured that I will read the rules. I have downloaded DVD Decrypter and was able to copy the files to the HD. In Using the ICOPYDVDs2 I was unable to burn. It tells me unable to copy Archive and then cancels itself out. This is a little harder than I thought (for me anyways)so thanks for all your help.
clarels... Check the instructions on ICOPYDVD's2. I believe all you need to do is have DVD43Free running in the background to unlock the copy protection...and then ICOPYDVDs2 will do the rest. DVD43 is free, and you can 'dl it on AD.
[bold]Doc,[/bold] the free version of dvd43 is v1.4 and it requires patin couffin to be installed to work. The standalone version v2.0 is only free for 30 days, then it costs. If I am going to pay for a on the fly ripper, I prefer Anydvd which has a better track record. Copy2 should work either way, one way you're burning directly to the burner on the fly, the other you're burning directly from the HD to the burner. Neither way is faster believe it or not. [bold]clarels,[/bold] do you have Intervideo DVDCopy2? If so, tell me exactly what you're doing, it will work using decrypter. Are you ripping in file mode ? _X_X_X_X_X_[small] [bold]GO VOLS![/bold]..Dell Media4600, XP,Pentium 4 @2.80GHz/800Mz,512MB,280HDw/8MB,17" flat panel,AIO-A920,8xDVD-ROM,integrated 5.1 audio, HPdc4000,PlextorPX-708UF,LiteOn SO[/small]
