hi iv got an intel celeron 2.7ghz, GF F5200 64MB video card 512 ram. With these lowly settings i use my computer a lot for games(recently prince of persia two thrones, Quake 4, NFS:MW,e.tc) and on default settings, these games still look pretty great in my opinion although some might like their games set to high. I was thinking about gettin a radeon 9600 pro to boosst graphics at least a level to handle games like fear but iv been gettin realy bad news about the Celeron. Do you guys think its worth it? Thanx 4 all replies.

Yes indeed a very good upgrade from that old 5200 get a 9600xt, It will boost your games alot, with that proc even though old you can still fight your way through with last generation games, off course getting something better than a 9600xt, because the processor cant deal with it and you wont get the full performance of the card, so yes for now get a 9600xt (NOT PRO!!!) and if you can another 512 of ram, that will boost you ALOT!!!!!!!! on your graphical performace, dont get anything from the fx generation nvidia (is not that good), just as example that those celeron can still fight through, my last computer was a celeron 1.1 384 ram! and I upgraded to a 9600xt and yes it boosted a lot graphical perfomance although still bottleneck by the processor, it was a good upgrade.

(if you really dont want to read all that here is my veredict):

Is really worth it but get a 9600xt, that celeron can still fight your way through so help him by giving another 512 of ram, and trust me, you wont have much trouble playing last gen games with some graphical limitations, and if you have the money get the 6600gt that will boost even more your graphical power. GL!

hey pat thanx alot for the reply very informstive. Just 1 more thing, im on a budget and i just wanted a definite opinion. Would the 9600 pro boost my graphics to a certain level to handle a game like fear on low-mid settings? the 9600xt cost bout 80 quid but i have a 100 quid budget for memory(512) and a new graf card. Thanx for any reply

The Radeon 9600PRO is ancient and believe me, you WILL NOT see a huge improvement in games, if any at all. The fact that you have a Celeron certainly doesnt help either. Right now, I've got a 2.8 Celeron, Radeon X800PRO, and 512MB of PC2700(oc'ed to PC3200) and when I run NFS Most Wanted on all high settings(shadows off...thats a performance killer in NFS most wanted) it plays OK, but still is a bit choppy. I recommend getting a video card that supports DirextX 9.0, another 512MB of RAM, and definitely a Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon if you plan on gaming.

Well, the two cards which are the best bang for the buck would probably have to be the Radeon 9800PRO and the GeForce 6600GT. The 6600GT is a very nice and fast card and can be found for $130 at newegg.com. You have AGP right?

Very good choice the GT is a directx 9.0 card having various last generation technologies available, and yes its available on agp (I actually owned one until I changed it for a 6800gt) and trust me this card is a very good one and will boost your graphical level more than a 9600xt, so if you have the money get the 6600gt, you wont be dissapointed, while having last generation technologies!!!Forget the 9800PRO if you are planing spending more than 100 you want the best!!

Conclusion: Between the 9800 PRO and 6600gt the GT is the way (this is not questionable..lol!) and IT IS available in agp, and is a outperforming card.

what is your AGP slot ? is it a 4x slot or is it a 8x slot ? putting a 8x card in a 4x slot isnt going to help you much if that is what you have .

how old is the pc ? if it is 4 years or older i would say it probably has a 4x agp slot . your motherboard manual should tell you what it is .

emachines does not have mobo manual, you could download AIDA 32, and it will tell you if you have agp 8x or 4x, if you have 4x I will recommend you the 9600xt, because the 6600gt will not give you that much graphic boost if its working over agp4x,
