In order to burn a DVD in divix format do the files need to be AVI? I have some MPEG and would like to know if I could burn these as is. If not what is a good program to use to convert it to AVI that will keep the file size about the same with the same quality. Thanks!
for mpegs that I record off the tv tuner card, I use winavi video converter to convert them to avi(xvid) because it's the fastest available. The output quality is about as good as the original at about half the size. Also winavi will turn those mpegs(as is) or avi's into fully compliant dvd's that you can play on a standalone dvd player. With winavi I can batch convert 100 mpeg files at a time with no problem. I wouldn't recommend winavi for converting actual dvd's(vob's) because the quality just isn't there and it has problems keeping the video/audio insync. But I've never had any audiosync problems converting mpegs. For editing mpegs(removing commercials etc) , the best available is videredo plus. For converting dvd's to xvid and keeping the best quality, use fairuse wizard lite.
