Newbie: Simple PSP Firmware question

    Hi there,
    i got a PSP with Firmware 1.50 and following question:

    Are there games out, which require to upgrade my current firmware to a newer one so that i can play them? If it's so, how can i prevent that?

    I always read about DevHook, Dark Alex's Firmware, etc.

    What is the difference? What do i need to have a PSP with the "newest available" firmware, which still lets me play backups?

    get a custom firmware like 3.40OE

    let's you play the most current available UMD's and still have homebrew.
