newbie to all this.

    hello everyone and sorry if l,m a bit of a pain but this is all confusing to me.Yes l have tried reading the info but it,s confusing me more.Well here goes, l have no idea where to start when it comes to capturing off dv camcorder.l have a firewire lead which l know goes from cam to computer.l have windows movie maker and windvd creator2 already on my computer will any of these do capture to disc, if not can someone recommend which free package or packages do.Finally could you go through what to do from start capture to finish disc, and what disc can l use. A dvd,svcd,vcd or could l use all. Please keep it as simple as possible.

    WinDV will capture via firewire. It's free.
    This puts a large avi on your hard drive.
    You then need to encode it to mpg with software.
    Then it needs to be authored (put into the right format) then burned to disk.
    Best to encode to mpeg-2 for DVD.
    Start by reading some of the guides. There's even lots of free software for you to get started.
