Ok i am new to this divx thing.I am a huge anime fan and for a alternative source of wathin my animes i want to buy the Philips DVP642,it is said this thing can play divx files. So how exactly do i play my avi files on this thing. Iknow when i play my anime on my media players a small feint symbol appears "divx video". Does this mean i can just burn these kind of files to a dvdr/cdr data disc and my Philips DVP642 will play them.????

please guide me to the right solutions

    thank you

A lot of stuff is encoded with XviD. DivX's decoder can decode XviD so just because you see its DivX logo doesn't mean it is DivX.

Now, no current hardware fully supports XviD since now fully support ASP@L5, but the DVP642 is one of the worst. In fact I would say it is one of the worst players available, period.

Another issue is overscan, fansubs tend to have hard subs and the subs will most likely be cut off since they also tend to go really close to the edge of the video.

Just look at the number of people with problems with that particular player. Should read files from a DVD just fine as long as you burn ISO and not UDF.
