I would like to transfer vhs to dvd the only problem is I have no idea where to start or what I'll need. I'd like to improve the picture quality is there any way to do that and what do I need to do everything?

First of all I will get the easy part out of the way. You can't really improve the quality of the picture of a video, but you can alter it so it looks a little better or different to your liking. Just download VirtualDub.

Now, the VHS to DVD. There are different ways you can connect a VCR to a computer to get the VHS footage onto your computer. I don't know exactly how, but I know it can be done. You probably need to start another thread on connecting your VCR to your computer. Once you can do that, and you record your VHS footage onto your computer, enhance it or whatever you want with VirtualDub, then, if you have a DVD burner, just burn it onto a DVD-R. But if you don't have a DVD burner download VCDEasy. This free program allows you to put MPEG file onto a CD-R in DVD format so that you can watch it through your DVD Player (only if it plays CD-R's) In order to convert your VHS video files that you have recorded or saved onto your computer into MPEG, download TMPGEnc (it is free). If you are unfamilar with how to use this program click on this link - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/15564
Once you have converted the VHS video files to the correct MPEG format that VCDEasy can read, burn it onto a CD-R with VCDEasy. Hope this helped you,
