I am currently on 3.40 oe-a. what is the most updated firmware and can i upgrade directly to it or do i have to go in steps (i.e - 3.40 to 3.53 to 3.7 to 3.9, etc)? Is there any benefits to upgrading? Where can i get the firmware?
    Thanks for the help

The latest custom firmware is 3.90m33-3 :)
You'll first have to update to 3.52m33-4 and then only you can update to 3.90m33-3 :)
You cannot directly update your PSP to 3.90m33-3 >_>

neways, in 3.90m33-3, you can play more .iso games as compared to 3.40 OE-A :)
There is a way way way better "No UMD" driver in 3.90m33-3 (Sony themselves have launced a "No UMD" driver and it works darn awesome for all games and even the "M33 Driver" too is nearly the same)
Also, you can run homebrews on 3.90m33-3 too :D
1.50 kernel homebrews need the "1.50 kernel addon" for 3.90m33-3 :)

You can download the official firmwares from HERE
And the custom firmwares (and others) from HERE

thanks. i guess i'll stick with custom firmware since that is what i'm running now.
another question (or 2) if you don't mind.
1- does upgrading help with loading mp4's? i mean does the naming mechanism change at all , maybe more drag and drop. i just can't seem to get my mp4's to work on my psp.
2 - also, how do i get some of these emulators to work. i have a sega genisis, and nes emulator with roms, but can't get those to work. do i have to put them in a certain folder ?

    Thanks

Answer to #1: yes and no... sometimes sony upgrades the codecs it can play with mp4 so it's probably a good idea to upgrade.
Answer to #2: put them in the ms0:/PSP/GAME/ folder and put the roms where it says in the instructions of emulator...
