Could someone please help me with a little problem I have. I own a Dell PC with a NEC DVD+RW ND1100A burner but decided to upgrade to a dual layer multi format burner so purchased a second hand Liteon DVDRW SOHW-16935. I installed it into the second slot on my tower and plugged it in but after burning a DVD the video footage was all choppy. I only ever use TDK media and have never had this trouble with the NEC. So I removed the NEC and replaced it with the Liteon to see if it would make a difference but the PC couldnt find it so I plugged the NEC into the second slot but still no dice. Im thinking maybe it has something to do with master and slave drives but have no idea how to change it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With Dell pc's the first drive should be Master and the second should be cable select, i think. Try putting it to that.

And try some better media, such as Sony, Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. Becos TDK aren't very good disks...But at the end of the day it is what works in your burner, and TDK are fine for your NEC by the sound of it but not the LiteOn.

No need to remove the NEC, it is a fine dvd drive for reading etc (maybe use this NEC to rip dvd's and burn with new one.)

    Anyway

You want to put the LiteOn as Master and NEC as Cable select. Do this by changing the jumpers around, as explained in that link.

As I am in a good mood, here are the links to the lateest firmwares for your drive. This is especially important for your new lite on that you upgrade, becos it enables the drive to read new disk codes.

    NEC:

You want the Dell OEM firmware, verison, 10GE.

    Lite On:
    Is your drive a SOHW 16935 or a 1693S??
