I have never used usenet.com, but torrents offer a great deal of files from many different sites and trackers for free. This appears to cost money.

Your right you have to pay for newsgroups but I am guessing your speed with bittorents are roughly 30kb/s thats what mine was at best now with newsgroups I get 250kb/s don't have to worry about seeds or none of that

pfff 30kb/s is not a fair representation of what the torrent technology can do. I'm on cable internet and see regular download speeds in excess of 1.3mb/s down and roughly 40kb/s up.

    Hi,

Depends on several things, you can't judge BT speeds like that, you need to take seeds, lechers etc into consideration. My ISP (NTL) offers free Newsgroups, which I have found are fairly decent, BT satisys my needs. As they say; "It ain't broken don't fix it" :)

I'd say it isn't worth it, as its available for free via Bit Torrent.

Usenet (Newsgroups) is all i would use to DL. Other than private ftp access. I will not touch torrents and never have. All torrents can be traced, and hence are unsecure. Usenet has been around before the internet, and is public domain.

I would recomend getting a Usenet account that supports SSL encription. And garantees an anonomous connection.

With usenet, you dont upload anything if you dont want.
Also if you want it first, and dont have Leet ftp access. Then usenet is what you want.

Bit torrents are the lowest denominator.

    What he said.

To add, I get 10 Mbit/s (1200 KB/sec) downloads with newsgroups (giganews), which maxes out my connection, and I've no doubt that if i had a 20 Mbit connection or even 40, it'd max out that too.
